Yes, football players didn't get "paid" like now-a-days players do, but if you think about it, if he took his 100K a year, and placed it into an even conservative mutual fund, just one year of his pay would be in the millions now.

I like to watch the old games, I grew up on 80's football. Im just getting really tired of having to have sympathy for every person, who cant save their money. Wether it be a football player, basketball player, or the average everyday joe. Maybe they shouldnt buy their 250K house, on 35K a year, or sniff it up their freakin nose. Whatever the case be, I'm just wore out on feeling "sorry" for these people.

Mercury was a great player for the Fins and I remember watching him as a kid.....BUT how much of Mercury's health issues are related to his drug use and not football. Sorry, but most people these days dont get any pension anywhere close to what the NFL players get...he blew his lump sum.

Theres a lot of assumptions about how much money Mercury has or what he's done with it, we don't know the whole story so lets not get out of control dumping on the guy. The money he received is absolutely nothing compared to what his injuries are. I wouldnt want to be incapacitated for half the year and in constant pain for 300k, thats about the rawest deal Ive ever heard of. Im not feeling overly sorry for the guy, but fair is fair. That deal isnt comparable to the injuries he has. I dont make a ton of money but I wouldnt give my health up for 300k, thats terrible. Would any of u give up your health for the money he made? Or the pension the NFL players have?
