Say's about Joey Harrington,

"I heard in pre-game shows [Sunday], and I get so upset by it because ex-quarterbacks say things, 'Well, he didn't get it done in Detroit,' " said a usually calm Simms as he began to raise his voice. "I'm saying, 'Well, you didn't get it done on many teams.' It drives me crazy. You can't give the records of the teams to the damn quarterback

This is coming from a 2 time SB CHAMP, and a helluva good QB during his time in the NFL also IMO a future HOFer. This is exactly what I was Saying about Joey all spring and I still feel the same way. You can't blame that "team" on Joey. Joey may not ever be a HOFer, but until he gets a shot with a "team" that's capable of winning, he shouldn't be judged by the Detroit years.

For example Doug Williams, Steve Young, and Rich Gannon

You should be judge by what you did on the field though not by wins and losses. He wasn't really turning it up on the field.

Joey passed for more then 10,000 yards since 02, he also had a pretty nice season in 04.

Yards don't fully measure the success of a qb. And if the best you can say is he had a pretty nice season one year out of many then you're not getting it done. Joey can turn it around here but nothing in the past has shown him to be the next Marino. Servicable backup, yes.

Absolutely. Yet these fantasy leaguer's still insist on their magical "QB Rating" somehow being some kind of universal Rosetta Stone, true equalizer that tells the whole story about a player. Bull. :oldman:

Situation is everything in the NFL. That's reality football, not some fantasy crap. It's TEAM first - then it's the coaching System. Then it's the position coaches and their position players as sub groups. Finally individual players who are at the mercy of all the above forces and depend on everything working in order to gain their personal stats. This goes especially for the QB position!!!

The 3 years Detroit spent running Steve Mariucci's "version" of the WCO was a total waste. The guy proved to be a complete fraud as a Head Coach with this marvelous System. The Team agreed after his 2nd year when they realized his play calling was atrocious. I wish the guy luck on ESPN but seriously doubt he'll ever be HC in the NFL again.

Why do you think fellow QB's like Simms, Boomer, Bradshaw, Aikman, even Marino, don't spend much time talking QB Ratings? They analyze individual players in the context of their situation. Everyone around the league knows Joey Harrington got a raw deal in Detroit. Everyone except for the fantasy kids and their "magical numbers", that is.

Simms would have a decent perspective on it too, since he was pretty awful his first 3-4 years in the league until he had a better team around him.

I think that Joey has all the tools to be a good QB. I always look at Steve Young, who was garbage when he was with a garbage franchise (the Yuckaneers) but when he moved to a class organization he became a HOFer. I am not ready to predict the same type of turnaround for Joey, but he at least has the talent to be better in Miami than he ever was in Detroit.

On a side note, how great is it to look at our QB situation this year as opposed to any of the previous 5 or 6? I mean, I am just as disappointed in C-Pep as anyone, but who of us really knows how healthy he really is. His knee is not allowing him to be C-Pep. I would compare it to Marino hurting his throwing arm, and then being asked to go make things happen with his legs. It is not the type of QB that he is. And while C-Pep was never Vickish in his play, he did rely on his legs alot to buy time for him to make big plays. He can't do that now. But how good is it that we can turn to a #2 draft pick as our 2nd option, instead of someone like Pukeas or AJ.

Well lets look at John Elway, how many chances did he have at a SB ring before Shanahan & TD came along and made Elways career complete?? Wouldn't it be something if Joey turned out to be worthy of the #3 overall pick where he was drafted? I mean if Kurt Warner can come from a grocery store, Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Delhome can come from the arena league and Tom Brady can be drafted in the 6th round, we may have a shot with Joey if we're lucky.

Joey is the better qb for this offense that Miami runs.

I hope Joey succeeds he is our second string QB and Cpep hasn't fully recover from his injury.
Would Gus have done better,I don't think so.

Many??? 2.5 seasons is many???

Joey looks like the right guy for our offense. Gets the ball out quick and is mobile enough in the pocket. With our OL the way it is, he's a perfect fit unlike Culpepper who requires a Pro Bowl caliber OL in order to operate. Forget about Pep's Pro Bowl seasons or Harrington's struggles in Detroit because it's the past when it comes to those two. It's what happens now that matters.
