MERGED: 1 move we should have made.... / 1 Move Rick didn't make

I did that's why I went groan. Ok lay out your O-line masterpiece please. Include projected cap hit and length of contracts. Also leave in the cap space we'd have for the next six years based on your O-line projections.
Dude, I wasn't TALKING TO YOU IN THAT POST. I was talking to the person who said I was "dead wrong."

your a dum@ss man... what o-line moves are u referring to then? I just assumed that those were it because those are the notable "failed" acquistions if u want to call them that... uphold ur statement with some evidence then and maybe ill agree with u...
Frankly, given the level of intelligence you've shown in this thread, I am not sure I WANT you agreeing with me. There were many O linemen on the FA market and I don't feel we went after the right ones.

perhaps after next week when the jets have played against whoever it will be with a much better Front 7...... It won't seem much like Kendall woulda been a obvious upgrade.

I think our problems on the OL are at OT more than OG. People don't want to admit it, but Wade Smith might be the worst starting LT in the league right now, bar none. He was probably the worst starting LT last year, and he is again this year. The coaches have forgotten that your BEST offensive lineman has to play LT.
I agree with this 100%. And I think one of the reasons the line was so bad last year is because the rest of the linemen knew that even their BEST efforts would be undermined by Smith. When you go long enough knowing that your efforts will be undermined beyond your control, you quit, plain and simple.

I mean Christ, Smith was the equivalent of an advanced high-schooler playing one of the toughest positions in the game! One of the worst personnel decisions of the year last year was letting Marcus Spriggs go. Don't think for a minute he wouldn't have been starting had we kept him. If DW can yank Fiedler, a guy he's in LOVE with, after a bad half, what do you think he would've done with Smith after the Indy game last year?

And I agree that Smith isn't sufficiently better this year to make a difference. He's still a VERY weak run blocker IMO. If and when McIntosh is healthy this year, I think you'll see a VERY different running game with him and James blasting the left sides of defensive lines.

LT is a VERY important position. Jamal Lewis rushed for nearly 500 yards on Cleveland last year. He rushed for 52 yesterday without Jonathan Ogden.

cant disagree more about smith........ outstanding rookie season for LT starter.... other head coaches were raving about him ... i remember jeff fischer was one... just a few struggles with the top De's in the league... Apparently he's had a bad offseason but i expect great things from him.

And I think one of the reasons the line was so bad last year is because the rest of the linemen knew that even their BEST efforts would be undermined by Smith. When you go long enough knowing that your efforts will be undermined beyond your control, you quit, plain and simple.

You know your talking about our extremely old, slow, weak, interior of last year
(injured nails, and grandpa's Ruddy and Perry)
Theres a reason Smith is the only returning starter....The interior had to go, they are all outta the league now... and Todd Wade wanted Way too much $ just for being tall and fat..

I suspect Martin's big day was more a result of Cinci's porous Dline than the Jets Oline.

Could be wrong but we'll get the truth this weekend won't we?

Jeez, settle down people. Its a valid point the thread starter is making. Noone is crucifiying RS here. Sheesh.

That was exactly what I was going to say. Someone else said it was because of Cinci's poor d... and well I was going to write I sure hope so. Because that would mean a great night for us next week!

Im not bashing Speilman here.....but the one move we should have made and didn't, signing Pete Kendall. Rick offered him a 1 year deal when all he wanted was a 2 year deal, which is what he got in NY.

Jets sign Kendall and he makes their o-line stronger, and Curtis Martin comes back for the dead and rushes for almost 200 yards on opening day. Im not saying this move is the reason why Martin went crazy yesterday, but if you think Kendall isn't a big reason why, then your nuts.

That is the move we should have made. He would have been a huge upgrade over Taylor Whitley and would have made this team much better.
I COMPLETELY agree with that.

Unfortunately, the one move Rick didn't make...

I've been watching highlights/breakdowns of C Martin's game yesterday. They were highlighting the offensive line pulling/countering on ESPN MNC. Pete Kendall is/was always one of the lineman way out in front of C Mart plowing the field, make C Mart's life easy. REally wish we wouldve paid the money for this guy and had him and Jeno James at guard, then McIntosh and St Clair at Tackle. wouldve been great by midseason when they became cohesive. oh well..Otherwise, great job Rick!

Man, I want an apology from every person who bitched about our R.B and QB being third string, the very first game Feeley throws for 300+ yards, and Gordon pounds out 100+ yards.

That very well could be this coming Sunday night.

We'll see if Kendall makes it thru the entire season. He hasn't done that since 2000.

Groan I guess getting 85% of your personell decisions right doesn't cut it for Dolphins fans.

I guess producing 85% of edible hamburgers at McD'd is acceptable..

I guess responding to 85% of emergency calls is acceptable for the police..

I guess save 85% of your patience is acceptable for the Doctor..

WTF you think Rick is.. a weatherman?? he is paid to do his job... Maybe Wanyne should pay the guy 85% of his salary..
