Butler turns down Fins

According to edgar thompson of pbp Butler was offered the DC spot and turned it down. What now, No Crennel, No Groh, No Butler and repors are Frazier will be Bills next HC. What will the Fins do?

I think he was promised the Steelers job next season.

but this was JUST reported by in the pal beach post........

It’s impossible to know if the Dolphins ever offered their defensive coordinator job to Al Groh, but it’s a moot point now. According to ESPN and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Groh has decided to stay at the college level and accept the same position with Georgia Tech.
That brings the Dolphins’ focus squarely on Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker coach Keith Butler, who according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter is to interview for the position today.
Groh, 65, had made it clear that his preference wasn’t either a college or pro job but one that fit his ‘criteria.’ Chief among those was the integrity of the situation, and his familiarity with Bill Parcells made it understood that existed in spades in Miami.
But Groh also knew the demands Parcells — and by extension, his lieutenants, coach Tony Sparano and GM Jeff Ireland — put on their coaches. It’s possible he decided he didn’t want to jump back into that NFL meat-grinder after spending the last 10 years at the college level.
Regardless, Butler, who at 52 is 13 years Groh’s junior, now becomes the frontrunner. If all goes well, an announcement could be only hours away.

THIS makes more sense. why would butler agree to an interview before
interviewing and hearing out the dolphins offer?

the pitt things sounds more like a wishfull rumour to me. notice there was
no reason why and ended with a stay tuned tomarrow blurb.

if someone had that inside scoop, they would have found out the reason
why also. they didnt. i mean really, you go to your source, he/she says,
"butler turned down the finz"!!!

isnt your next question, as a reporter, WHY?

when i see that CONFIRMED by either ESPN or NFL NETWORK, its
all just rumour to me.

but, this is the current miami dolphins we are talking about. par for course,
we have a chance a real deal, perfect situtation coaching candidate
and he turns it down before even interviewing.

thats todays finz.

Wow...that SUCKS. We had all our eggs in one basket and now have nothing. Obviously the team didn't plan on Bowles with the offer to Butler.

Curious to see if the team continues the search or just puts up the white flag and hires either Bowles or Sheridan. Ugh.

It was Bowles the whole time. I wouldn't be so quick to believe a Pittsburgh newspaper's claim that he was offered the job. He may have turned us down, but that doesn't mean he was actually offered the job. It easily could have been a situation where it was obvious to both sides in the interview that the situation wasn't right and so he opted out of the process. A Pittsburgh paper would probably jump all over that as him being offered and having turned us down to stay with their beloved Steelers, because it makes both Butler and the Steelers look better, but that doesn't make it the truth.

You don't agree to coach the Senior Bowl having no clue who your defensive staff will be or when you will have them in place. And you don't generally hire a defensive coordinator while giving him zero say over who his position coaches will be. Read the writing on the wall, folks. This job was Todd Bowles' a long time ago.

I just threw up. Forget having a decent defense next season.

If it is Bowles I don't think he'd be a bad DC. Our secondary problem also stemmed from a lack of pressure (and bad safety play). But I just look at the work he did in 08 to show he is a damn good secondary coach.

I agree with CK, its looking more and more like it was Bowles job all along. Does anybody know who Bowles worked under when he was in Cleveland?
