Merged 2x: Dolphins to release 7-time Pro Bowler Thomas

Dolphins to release Zach Thomas

One of the faces of the Miami Dolphins is no longer with the organization.

Miami has informed perennial Pro Bowl linebacker Zach Thomas they will release him Thursday, FOXSports.com has learned.
Thomas, like the rest of the Dolphins, suffered through a miserable 2007 season. He suffered a concussion on the field and injuries in a car accident that limited his play.
After missing several games, the Dolphins finished Thomas' season for him when they placed him on injured reserve in December.
Thomas instantly became a fan favorite his rookie year and went on to become one of the league's most well-known tackling machines. In the last couple of months, Thomas has told FOXSports.com he thought his release was imminent due to his salary. However, Thomas also said that he is not ready to hang up the cleats.

oh wow... knew it was comin, but its gonna be weird not seein him around

I'll miss Zach, but it is better to release someone a year too early, than a year too late. His cap number didn't help him either.

Wow this is very surprising to me, I wanted him to be a dolphin forever.. I wonder if this means he will retire?

This isn't surprising. It is time. We are rebuilding this team. I love Zach Thomas and what he has meant to this football team but we must move on!

Truly a sad day folks. :(

I'm not surprised at all. The first year Parcells took over the Cowboys one of his first moves was cutting Emmitt Smith.

It's a new era, folks.

Very sad if true :(

I just can't imagine seeing him play for anyone else.
