Jared Gaither the huge tackle from the Maryland Terrapins has been ruled academically ineligible for the 2007 season. He is eligible for the NFL supplemental draft despite being a rising junior because of a year he spent at a prep school before enrolling at UM. The article says he is leaning towards going back to school but I will believe that when I see it.

Somebody will give up a first for him IMO

Put in a 3rd for him and let the chips fall where they may.

I am a University of Maryland Graduate and I would give up a 2nd for this guy without blinking. I think he will be a better prospect than both Baker(USC) and Long( Mich.) He would be an instant starter and could let Vernon go back to RT.

While the appeal of the supplemental draft still has a little luster to it... I've yet to see any real production from it for any team.

Sometimes you have to evaluate WHY a player is coming out early. As that could give much insight as to his potential relationship with the organization.

Wow, this is big news. I'd love to get him in the supplemental draft. I'll be anxiously awaiting his decision.

Was he known for mental mistakes on the feild????

If not, LT isn't that cerebral of a position to play. He won't have to go through what Abe Wright is going through trying to win a backup position to JT.

I think the Dolphins will be picking late next year so spending a high pick on him doesn't bother me.

I say go for it. He could be the next Jonathan Ogden.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Ravens spent a first, considering Ogdens imminent retirement.

Wow this is huge!! I doubt anyone gives a 1st for him, But it will be interesting to see what happens. Its hard to see him going back to school

Don't see it happening.

Even if he does declare, I think they may be too comfortable with the idea of Carey at LT to take a chance with a high draft pick. Gaither may have some enormous upside, but he also has his question marks, and I think even if Miami were interested they probably wouldn't part with a high enough draft pick to secure his rights.

I hope he goes back to school but on the other hand he is gonna be a stud LT or RT if he keeps his **** together.

AMEN. You got to work to become academically ineligible when you are a starter at a big school. For better or worse, schools bend over backwards to keep athletes on the field. The guy could be extremely lazy...which never works in the NFL.

I thought he was a RT not a LT ????

His issues were grades. He had a GPA somewhere south of the federal deficit! Lazy, dumb, or indifferent? Hard to say. I would want to cut Houck's vacation short and send him up to sit with the kid. If we think he's a possibility, assuming he fills out the application for the draft with the league, I would want to see if we could get him for our fourth next year. Then make sure Green meets the incentives and push Peterson's KC pick back to 2009!
