An arrest for drunk driving and drag racing at 111 mph cost safety Quintin Williams his roster spot.

Williams should consider himself lucky that was all he lost.

Only a few miles away from where Williams was pulled over at 4 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 595 is the spot where another Dolphins player had his career end at the same exact time almost three years earlier in a late-night traffic accident.

Offensive lineman James Wagstaff lost control of his vehicle on the on-ramp from I-95 to 595, resulting in his ejection when his 1998 Mercedes SUV flipped. Wagstaff, who was not wearing a seat belt, survived but needed six surgeries on his left hand and wrist in the two months that followed.

He never played another down of football.

Ironically, Williams' background indicates he would be among the least likely expected to get into this kind of mess.

The valedictorian of his North Carolina high school, Williams made the dean's list and earned Academic All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors in earning a bachelor's degree in English at Wake Forest.

Sucks.

poor guy is human. I just drove some dumb ******* from a bar to my house. No drag racing thou. not smart. most of us do it. im not saying ive never halled a$$ from a night on the town..............just never got caught.

Knock on wood! :)

Leonard Little anyone?

Lamar Smith?

Okay, now Leonard Little is a guy who got off easy. Little ran over a pregnant woman and killed her while he was drunk. I think he only did a 30 day sentence or something. It certainly wasn't the 10 year stretch in the state pokey that a regular schlub would get.

Thats quite a comedown from valedictorian to getting into trouble for speeding and drunk driving.

Maybe he will get a chance somewhere else.

High hopes? Really? I hadn't even heard of the guy until his arrest. Oh well, I don't think he'll be the difference in us winning the super bowl or having a 3 win season..

saban set a good example here but:

what if it was zach thomas, JT, or another starter? would they receive the same punishment?
