MERGED 2x: Quintin Williams gets off easy / costly

"This is not the kind of behavior we expect from our players," Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Thursday after learning of the arrest.

Should he have specified "players...that aren't stars and aren't going to start"

Because he welcomes an admitted drug user back to the team, and you know that if this were Randy McMichael, or Chris Chambers, it would have been a slap on the wrist, and maybe a fine...

OR......

"This is not the kind of behavior we expect from our players, RELATIVE to how good they are"

You'd be surprised. I know he wouldn't cut Jason Taylor (not that I can imagine JT giving him a reason to) but I can also see Saban deactivating someone from the roster to make a point. John Gruden deactivated Keyshawn Johnson two seasons ago, the offense struggled horribly but he stuck to it. He made a point that he wasn't going to let a player be a cancer and talk down to him. I can see Saban fining or even deactivating someone if he felt he was losing credibility and respect by not doing anything.

Those players aren't stupid enough to do things like this. Why do you care so much about what happens to our players?

HAHAHA!

Randy McMichael isn't stupid enough to do that?

Notice i didn't say taylor, thomas, or seau...they probably wouldn't.

But there are players on every team that would, star players.

It will be interesting to see what happens if there is an issue.

Maybe he just thought that he wasn't good enough to be on the team compared to others at that position. There are other reasons he might have been cut besides the DWI incident. Yes I know it's coincidental, but he could have been on his way out either way.

1st thing I said after learning about this. If Surtain was still here do you think he'd let him loose but, that's par for any situation. Theres rules for superstars and a different set for average to so so players.

How's the view up there on your high horse? Almost every team applies this double standard. I can recall the Eagles did a similar thing a few years back w/ a fa rookie and correll Buckhalter, both were caught in a car with tree smoke drifting from the windows. one was cut can guess which one? why wasn't buckhalter cut? b/c the iggs thought that buckhalter could help them.
I'm sure almost every other team has a similar story.....

Williams was a safety and we are dangerously thin at that spot. Your point may be valid, but it would have more credibility if the circumstances were more like this:

Day 1 Dolphins S Williams arrested for DUI and drag racing
Day 2 Dolphins sign S Schulters to 3 year deal
Day 2/3 Dolphins release recently arrested S Williams to clear cap room for Schulters

The statment "This is not the kind of behavior we expect from our players" is complete BS.

Look no further than Ricky Williams...he wasn't even on the team, and he's an admitted drug user who is going to miss time for it...yet Saban goes out of his way to bring him back, give him a second chance.

Saban has had a pretty good start to his career, but this is his first screw-up.

he only blew a .083 and the legal limit is .08, so at least he was only buzzed and not drunk

Actually, I believe that his BAL was .83 not .083. That is a big difference.

He will deal with the players "relative" to their "value" to the team. As will all coaches.

.83 = 83% -he would be dead. I believe it was .087.
