Merged 3x: 3rd Round Pick... Derek Hagan

Derek Hagan!

Saban just picked this guy. He reminds me of Chambers.

3rd Round Pick... Derek Hagan

Nice pick at the third round. We need a Wr. Nice Pick!

Round 2, #5 WR
Pros: Strong hands and agile body. Can leap over defenders and get the ball; very productive WR who has shattered many records in ASU. Surprised scouts with a very impressive 40 at the combine (4.42).
Cons: Is not a real deep threat - mainly a possession WR. Thought to have good hands, Hagan has scouts questioning his receiving ability after many dropped passes in both the Senior Bowl and Combine practices.

#4 WR
Strengths:
Has solid size...Is a smart and cagey receiver who just knows how to get open...Runs good routes...Is more quick than fast...Tough and will lay his body on the line...Does a solid job of running after the catch...Never gives up on a play...Adjusts well to bad throws...Overachiever who gets the most out of his ability...Very productive...The type who does everything well but nothing great.
Weaknesses:
Does not have great pure speed...Is not a deep threat...Will still drop some catchable passes and hands are somewhat questionable...May have trouble separating from pro defensive backs...Is not a great blocker...Does not work the middle of the field much...May not have a lot of upside at the next level.

STRONG POINTSHagan is a big, physical receiver who knows how to use his size to his advantage very well. He jolts and defeats the jam easily and can shield the cornerback from the ball to make the catch with a cornerback on his back consistently. He's a very smooth and fluid receiver who can get in and out of his cuts quickly and can contort his body to adjust and make tough catches seem routine. His hands are outstanding; he can pluck the ball when he needs to, does not drop the easy pass, and makes the catch on the most important plays. He has proven to be a clutch receiver throughout his entire college careeer. His size and strength help him to break tackles and keep his feet despite hard hits while running after the catch.

WEAKNESSESThe only glaring thing Hagan lacks is explosiveness and top-end playing speed. He lacks a burst off the line of scrimmage, cannot close the cushion on the cornerback and can't get separation deep down the field. While he runs sharp routes and has some quickness out of his cuts, his lack of burst will hinder his ability to get separation in the NFL. He is never going to be a big-play deep-ball threat in the NFL; he is more of a possession receiver. He does not get after and stay after his blocks consistently.

Good Pick. Suprised we passed on Max Jean-Gilles(sp?).

i never heard of him they were just saying on espn that the guy is big but inconsistent and drops a lot of balls plus didnt look good at the combine

he reminds me of mark clayton for some reason. he's gonna be good i have a feeling. 4th round pick:jovon johnson

Excellent pick, and don't worry about nick saban's first pick, last year he picked three SEC players, and one of them was a DB, and I would say all of them have been exceptional thus far. (Crowder, Daniels and Brown). Don't doubt this man, he knows what he's doing. Jason allen will be a stud.

I love him too. Don't read too much at the drops at the senior bowl he is an awesome WR IMO. Very productive and explosive WR that would have been a first round pick last year in alot of experts opinions.
