WKMG Protest

Orlando area Dolphins fans have a lot to huff and puff about. Please join me in protesting this non-response:
"We have requested the Dolphins game this Friday from CBS...the NFL has
turned us down. The game will only be given to the primary and secondary
markets...Miami, West Palm, Ft Myers, Kansas City, Topeka...the NFL's
purpose is to keep games away from Friday nights to protect high school
football games in local markets"

My position is that, after having gone to great lengths to attempt to 'get' the Dolphin's game versus the Bucs last weekend and having been rebuffed by the league, and now having promised the local market ... during a weekend in which the Jaguars (and even Bucs) are NOT PLAYING, the league is essentially snubbing it's nose at FLORIDA NFL fans.

My response to WKFG follows:

Please understand that your disinterest or otherwise unwillingness to pursure the matter of the NFL pulling yet another Miami Dolphins game from your broadcast schedule in favor of what will inevitably be lower performing Friday night broadcasts has moved my household to more severe action.

WKMG and CBS is hereby banned from viewing in my household. No one watches your crappy local news broadcasts or 60 Minutes any longer anyhow.

Since the NFL insists I must travel south from Orlando to get to a situation in which I am forced to outbid a hurricane evacuee for a hotel room that might broadcast the game, I feel compelled to ask you to report on not just the legality, but also the MORALITY or the NFL's decision.

The message to S. Floridians is ... 'if you want to watch the Dolphins play Friday night, throw back a few and come out and have an ***-splitting good time.

The message to anyone else in Florida is '**** YOU!'

I think Jeb Bush should step in ask GW to declare a ****ing federal disaster zone.

Yeah... it might have been a better sell LY, but heah ... nobody's perfect enough or drunk enough...

For the LAST time. This has NOTHING to do with CBS or DIRECTV!!!!!

Stop blaming them or complaining that you're going to cancel. If you boycott anything, boycott the NFL and never watch another game again.

If you want to make a serious statement to anyone, refrain from using the word "crappy". It makes you look immature, at least in a debate setting.

No, but there have been plenty of other threads complaining about Direct TV. Apparently you missed the whole point.

I have clearly stated that I blame WKMG, the local Orlando affiliate.

I stated that I 'understand' what the NFL broadcast rules are. I stated that I find them unacceptable. I stated that WKMG should expect reprecussions beyond just their sports/CBS/NFL broadcasts.

WTF more do you want from me? All I am capable of is banning the CBS station from my parental control lineup.

Hell ... no one in my house watches CBS unless it's for a Dolphins game anyhow.

**** WKMG and **** the NFL for forcing the Orlando market to suck Jaguars ***. I would be happy to watch a Jags game this week ... IF THEY WERE EVEN PLAYING ... but this week I have to leave the house or suffer games that mean nothing to my team.

The NFL is on the decline as an entitiy starting NOW.

Once any organization tosses away it's heritage, chaos ensues.

In the long run I realize that we'll lose 4 of 5 of the next several games ... I realize that we as a team are losing the 'Dan Marino' heritage/following that was built up over decades, and I also realize that I'm begging to see 'average' at best games.

I still don't see a reason to alienate a fan base over a stupid contract. Jacksonville is South Georgia for all that Orlandoans are concerned. More of us have been to Key West than to wherever that non-important place up there is...

Hell ... I have some relatives up there and quite frankly, St. Simons Island Jaguars should indeed draw more paying fans.

Seems to me they responded as best they could. If the NFL refuses to allow broadcasting of the game beyond a few local affiliates what can this station do beyond asking for assistance from the corporate office? Did you ask if that was done or if there are any plans to do so? CBS could force the NFL to allow it's affiliates the choice of broadcasting the game if it chose to.

I'm going to try something tomorrow with DTV, if it works I'll post it here.

I didn't quote anything. I made a statement. :shakeno:

Don't try and take your anger out on me.

Hey DolfanSean I am with you and have written many a letter and email as well as placed an angry call several times to WKMG but I have learned they really have no control over the NFL's decisions on what airs where. I have a co-worker whose wife is in the programming department for WKMG and he is a Dolphins fan too. She told him that last week the NFL basically left it up to the Jags and their front office refused WKMG's request to air the Miami-Tampa game. It's all about the contracts between CBS, the NFL and the teams in Florida. It does appear based on what she told me that Miami got the shaft and the last time the contract was negiotiated between the two Florida AFC teams CBS basically told Miami they had no say in the Orlando area because Jax is closer. Trust me the letters and calls do nothing. I've griped to CBS, the NFL and even to the Jags front office, whom as I recall laughed at me and hung up as they said go Jags(true story). I've checked and WKMG has no plans on airing the Dolphins games in weeks 8,9,11,12,13, and 16. We may get to see the Dolphins-Falcons game on FOX(WOFL 35). We are just screwed in this area of Florida when it comes to Dolphin games, I'm getting DTV before next season. Oh and BTW...I agree WKMG's new casts are crappy! :D

i don't understand why the NFL uses the excuse that they don't want to compete with high school games. maybe i'm not a real football fan, but i don't go to high school games and won't until i have a kid playing in them. are high school games really going to suffer if there's an NFL game on? there's gotta be something else, unless i have missed the boat on the high school thing...

This reminds of the my days in Albany, NY.

The NBC station(yes young ones, NBC used to have the AFC) put a poll up every week to see what game it would show. Jets, Bills, or Pats.

I think Orlando should do this...

PS, I live in Clermont, FL so I feel your Pain. I hate the Fins, but I feel I am being robbed of a "live" game on my NFL Ticket

You're right, worth a shot, but doubt it'll happen... but hey, thats not the thinking that founded this great country!!!
