Merged: Another swipe at the fans, is it really this bad?

This is the excuse I get tire of hearing.. I've watched the Bills games for years and you can't tell me they had a lot to be happy about, but fill that stadium, none the less, here the redskins haven't been the best but you have waiting lines for season tickets..pittsburg is a small market, so is GB, hell Denver since elway has left and no winning real seasons still fill their stadiums..and on and on.. Baltimore has to be the weakest economical city I've seen, go there, it's dirt poor, and yet that stadium is filled.. Enough, there's more than enough fans in the miami area to fill that stadium..they didn't have a problem during the early 70"s, and the Marino days, and I'm sure a lot more kids have been born in that area, and since I travel back there to visit my mom and see all the people, I know there's more than enough, the area is way bigger than it was when I lived there..

there is no excuse here, and there is nothing else to do in buffalo. its the midwest small market mentality - of course that team get supported. miami is different. but the atmosphere in that stadium combined with 20 years of futility - the fans are sick of it. all they want is hope. light at the end of the tunnell and they will return. there is ZERO stadium experience in miami tho. the stadium is awful, and u have to admit that. it simply isnt a draw, and that hurts ticket sales.

Um, hate to be the bearer of bad news but there was an article today about how bad tickets sales in Buffalo have been lately

The only way we are going to get the games majority Dolfans is to fill the seats with season tickets holders. We are a long way away from that IMO. There are so many transplants living here that if you don't live here it has to be hard to understand. They have the same opportunity to buy individual game tickets as Dolfans so you really can't stop them without season tickets or purchasing way in advance and there just isn't enough confidence in this team right now to do that. To blame the fans is silly, if your young ar relatively young you don't have much to feel go about with this team. I'm lucky I got to see Marino when I was growing up. A lot of the younger fans don't even have that. Give the fans a team to be proud of and this will start to turn around.

Hey Ricky, you were on a team that lost SEVEN OF EIGHT HOME GAMES. SHUT THE **** UP.

Though I'm hopeful with the Marlins departing, Stephen Ross will do something for the stadium that will increase its effectiveness and make it more football friendly . . . that stadium can get loud. 2008, New England came down here and Dolphin fans had that joint PACKED. I have never heard it so loud in a stadium.

Winning cures alot of problems . . . that place was loud as hell in this game . . . and it was DOLPHINS fans. Notice this is where the "ain't got it like that" fans sit . . . they tend to be the biggest supporters and do their best to make it to a few games despite their problems. Don't tell me Miami ain't got good fans (not u obviously, just in general).

Yr totally right.

i think back to back winning seasons and way lowered season ticket prices might be able to fix it tho.

this is a football town, even with the heat being great. just too many newyorkers

Baltimore is a perrinal playoff team. Miami isnt. Theres your answer Ricky.

I can probably say that I know as many Pats, Jets, and Eagles fans living down here than I do Dolphin fans. Driving on I-95 I always see Patriots license plates, Jets flags, Steelers stuff, and Eagles stuff. Hell even a bunch of GB fans are down here. I don't know if that is a testament for a bunch of bandwagon fans down here, but there sure are a lot of other team's supporters.

At my old job we used to run through temps . . . I promise you less than half were from Florida. Rarely was the favorite team the Dolphins. This is in Sunrise, FL mind you . . . 15 minutes from Sunlife stadium. You got your bandwagon jumpers of course, but there is just alot of people down here in 2011 who just ain't from South FL . . . the majority of them are from the NE.

The only thing Ricky is criticizing is the amount of Jets fans when we play them. We all know that's a problem. He's not being bitter or insulting the fanbase. It's interesting how perception works because with all the people on here (most out of towners) who swear that s fl fans are among the worst and that attendance is a huge issue, the figures just don't back that up at all.

I disagree with the whole transplant thing. If the team wins fans will buy season tickets. No way fans of rival teams are going to buy season tickets. If all the fans buy season tickets and go to the games, that leaves no tickets for sale for the rival fans bases and there is your 12lve man. It is all driven because the team has sucked for the past 10 years.

In theory, yes . . . unfortuntaley you have dealers who will buy season tickets and sell them to anybody who gives them their required price. Supply and demand still is king in the economic world. You much more likely going to find a local opposing fan buy tickets higher because they are only spending for 1 game, over a Dolphin fan who is look for up to 8 games. It all plays a factor. But the transplant is a big issue as is fielding a more consistent product.

I see what your saying but I just dont think there would be that many tickets available to opposing fans if the team was a constant contender. If the team was a contender I think a majority of fans would buy the season tickets, and then there would only be a minimal amount left for opposing fans to get ahold of, either through single ticket sales or buying on ebay from season ticket holders. If the team was any good, Miami fans would want to go to games. The better the team does, the more Miami fans that will attend, the less tickets for opposing fans to get their dirty hands on, I think.

There are numerous reasons why this problem exusts and all have been touched in this forum. It starts with the product on the field. Improve it and you may see an increase in Dolphans in the stands but they'll have to buy season tickets to keep the transplants and those who plan a vacation in South Florida around their teams appearance there from getting tickets.

Reasons:

1) We havent had a SB contender down here for over 20 years. (Doesn't stop me from supporting the team as a fan, but I can see how others would stop buying tickets.)

2) The stadium experience (Tickets, food, beer/drinks, parking, gasoline) is WAY too expensive nowadays with the economic ****hole that is Florida.
- If I was single, or even had no kids, it would be far easier for me to foot the bill for a game, but for families (whether the wife and kids come or not) it is more difficult. Having a family is expensive.
- Travel time and traffic is horrible. Lets face it, going to the game is an all day affair. Now that I'm living on the west coast, it is alot more difficult than when I lived in Lauderdale.

3) Too many people are selling their season tickets online (or other means) to the highest bidder. People from the north-east (NY, Mass..) have a higher disposable income and can pay more for tickets.
-This is rampant. Especially for big games. We have scalping operations that do nothing but purchase blocks of season tickets to sell. Most teams face the same problem, but teams that have waiting lists for season tickets (high demand), don't have to deal with it as much because these operations can't get the volume of tickets to make it worth their time.

4) Opposing team fans love coming to S. Fla, it is a vacation spot, and not difficult to arrange a long weekend to fly down for the game.
- Likewise, our transplants are either snowbirds, receiving pensions etc from their jobs up north, are independantly wealthy, or have no families to support.
- On the other hand, who the hell wants to leave S. Fla to go sit in some freezing cold ****hole with hostile fans around them? I've been to a Jets-Fins game in the meadowlands and it is NOT fun.

5) Just as the players hate to hear cheers for the opposing team, I CAN'T STAND sitting near them (or tailgating next to them). Most of the time it ends up in an argument (unless I bring my kids with me, then I grin and bear it.) I end up going anyway, lol.

6) People use other excuses such as the heat, or better things to do. The heat is BS. You live in Florida, if you can't take sitting in the sun, you need to get outside more.
- Better things to do...goes hand in hand with #1 Fielding a winning team. I admit, there are plenty of times I would rather be out on the water trolling for Sails on a Sunday than sit and watch football (although I'd be watching or listening while I'm out there) Going to the game needs to be one of the things at the top of the list, and winning will help it get there.

7) We have a large number of what I like to call the "Wine & Cheese crowd." These are the folks that go to the game because it gives them something to talk about at the watercooler on monday, or maybe they like looking at the cheerleaders, or maybe they are too old to even cheer.... For most of them, it is simply a social scene, if they arent at the bar, they are probably texting someone or checking scores for other games that they find more interesting. While they buy tickets and support the team with dollars, they typically do very little cheering, or even cheer at the wrong times. Although they irritate me at times, they are FAR more tolerable than seeing opposing fans in those seats.
