http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/112833.html Said Dolphins offensive line coach Hudson Houck: ``I think he's a prideful person. If you're prideful, you find a way to win. I think he wants to be good.''

Actually, Carey said a week earlier, ``I don't want to be good at it. I want to be great at Here is how certain Houck is about Carey's ability to play left tackle: Houck would have been fine with the move a year ago.

''If Damion McIntosh was not here last year, we would've moved Vernon over the to the left side,'' Houck said. ``We ended up with McIntosh at left tackle because that's where he was most comfortable. [Carey] has all the skills to be a Pro Bowler. The only questions are will he be able to refine his technique and can he play every play as if it's his last one?''

Besides, Houck said, ``He had a very good season last year. And playing right tackle is not all that different from left tackle from the standpoint of technique.''

But it is very different since the left tackle protects the blind side of a right-handed quarterback, and most teams stick their best pass rusher at right defensive end
it.''

Please, Vernon. All out effort. You are an extremely important piece of the puzzle. If you play like an All-Pro, we will win.

If that's not enough incentive...take a look at the contracts top left tackles receive.

Not To Sound. All Ready Convinced. But If He Locked Down That Left Side And Dominated, Well **** I Aint Gotta Tell You Guys.

I think the new system will be a big help to this Oline. Anytime you spread things out and move defenders away from the LINE it takes some pressure off the Linemen, QB and RB's. The more this offense succeeds the more confidence the Line gets. The biggest difference in a good Oline and a bad one is confidence. The eaiser you make things for the defense the tougher you make things for the offesne and vice versa. Cam will make the offense less predictable and tougher to cover.

You won't be able to stack the box and put the same pressure on the QB that we've seen in recent years. Add to the fact that this system allows the QB to get rid of the ball quickly, it cuts down on the length of time the QB has the ball in his hands, the less he's sacked, the more confident the line becomes.

Cam and Randy are also matching the talent to the system, not that they won't tweak the system when needed to fit certain players strenghts, but adding lighter, faster more agile interior Linemen to the Oline will ensure pulling G's and C's will be more effective then big fat slow movers we previously had. Also by adding speed to the skill positions in the backfiled and WO positions to help the offense use more of the field in less time from the snap of the ball.

If you step back and look at our offense as a whole, you'll see that Cam and Randy had a plan and formula tht they wanted and have been adding the pieces sice the moment they took over. It may take some time for this team to adjust to the syetem to be proficent, but looking at who we've added and the system we'll be running we are not gonna be the same vanilla boring offense we've seen since 2000.

Move To Left The Right Choice For Dolphins' Carey

A great article on Carey moving over to the left side. He is really motivated to prove the doubters wrong...
http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/112833.html

Here is a great quote. Carey, about playing the LT:
"I don't want to be good at it. I want to be great at it.''
This damn misconception about him playing poorly on the left side has got to die though...
Part of the reason Carey's fellow South Floridians looked askance at the idea of him moving to left tackle was he had been put in that role before in his first training camp. He was so unsuccessful that the Dolphins moved him to the right side, where he backed up John St. Clair.
He was very impressive at LT. Even Houck said in the article that he would have been comfortable with Carey starting at LT last year...

I would have to disagree. I thought that Carey had a Pro bowl year at RT, but wasn't nearly as effective at LT. Houck was only comfortable with him starting at LT----not enthusiastic about it.

I think hes talking about how he was called a failure at it because he didn't start his rookie year at left tackle.

I remember reports from camp then saying he was holding his own against JT pretty well. He will do way better now with some maturity and experience under his belt.

I totally agree with you. Last year was Vernon's coming out party. Vernon dedicated himself to coming into TC in shape last year and his game got drastically better. This is NOT the same Vernon Carey that was tried at LT two years ago. He is by far the best lineman we have.

The part I found interesting is he was asked to move to LT before the draft which tells me the Dolphins had no plans on drafting Levi Brown if he were available.

When did you see him play LT? He only played LT during a couple of televised preseason games... the HOF Bears game comes to mind... and he did a great job in that game. He didnt allow a sack against their very good pass rushing DEs. I know you arnt talking about his performance during Training Camp in 2005, because he was extremely impressive...

A lot of left tackles start off at RT... and then move over to LT after gaining a year of experience and confidence. Jammal Brown is a great recent example. Jason Peters, in our own division with the Bills, is another great example. Carey has developed nicely at RT, and like you said, played on a Pro Bowl level. He is definatly ready for the next step... to move over to the left side.

See, I disagree. I was hoping that we would draft Levi Brown... and put him at RT, where he fits best... due to his size and power.

Also maybe we knew we would not get Levi Brown.

Those were my training camp reports... "Nasty's Notes"

You guys can feel free to do a search for my training camp reports from that year. Just search "Nasty's Notes". You will be very encouraged with my writeups on Carey...

I aint disagreeing with you, with what you said after anyway, but i am sure he played LT in regular season. i must have had a mind block somewhere, or just dreamt that he would not make it at LT. Perhaps it was what the Coaches or he said himself, but something triggered it in my mind that somehow he would not play that positition. Are you sure he didn't play LT at sometime?
