Dolphins second-round draft pick John Beck was able to clock in just in time for the start of rookie camp Monday.

Miami reached a four-year agreement with the quarterback in time for him to attend his Monday meetings and not miss a minute of rookie camp.

Beck, considered to be the Dolphins' quarterback of the future, signed a thee-year deal and an option that will give him $2.25 million in guaranteed money. The agreement was reached late Sunday night. Beck was in town and was in attendance for workouts Monday.
Wish it wasn't really just a three year deal. :(

It doesn't really matter. Exercising a 4th option year, or deciding not to exercise it, does not harm the Fins at all. In fact, if John Beck is a guy they'd like to trade three years from now for some reason, it may be easier not to exercise that option and then give him an RFA tender at about the compensation you wish to receive for him.

If John Beck is a guy you want to keep, he's here for four years...at the very least (probably much longer since they'd re-negotiate him by 2009 most likely).

Good news to be able to get him in on time. 1 more to go and everything is peachy until preseason game 1 when we start to see it all jell.

This bit of information deserves a........

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

LETS GO PHINS!!!!!!!!!!!

WERE GOIN TO THE BOWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's really no downside to the 3-year deal with an option 4th year as opposed to just a straight up 4-year deal.

So ultimately they are only giving him 2 years to be an effective starter? This year on the bench, then playing in 2008 and 2009. Usually QB's need about 4 years to fully develop. But I guess the option is a plus

And I won't really breathe easy until Ginn is in camp. After the big deal that has been made of Ronnie Brown and Jason Allen holdouts, Ginn is the LAST person I want to see hold out...especially since we supposedly drafted "the Ted Ginn family" and his dad has been talking all this time about getting Ted into camp on time etc.

2nd rounders can only be signed a maximum of four years now under the new CBA.

The deal is prolly set up so that miami has more options in his fourth year. If he flops or we are uncertain we can forgo the opton and just use one of the many levels of RFA tenders7 round to 1st round). If he is kicking some butt by then we can extend his contract one year and reward him with a jump in pay.

I'm not sure if this is accurate or not but it really depends on the QB, the team he is on and the system he plays in.

What Miami can do in that 4th year is, if they find someone that they're more comfortable with at QB, they can slap the lowest RFA tender on him which would still require a 2nd round pick in trade, and then try and trade him for something lower. Or they can keep him around for one more year as a backup.

However, his agent negotiated the option year as a way of getting Beck paid more in that year than any of the RFA tenders would give him if he ends up looking like the franchise QB we're hoping. Miami wouldn't have to worry about him getting stolen for a 1st and 3rd round pick, too.
