Merged: Commentary: 1972 Dolphins Must Do the Right Thing

They are a long way from undefeated.

Not even getting into the playoffs and Superbowl difficulties, they must still beat Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, San Diego and Seattle.

I like them to lose one or more of those games.

The 1972 Dolphins tarnish this organization? They are classiest part of the history of this organization, they have never conducted themselves in anyway other than class regarding this subject.

There was absolutely nothing wrong when they showed up on the sidelines in 1985 to cheer on the defeat of the Bears. I find this article to be similar to someone writing an article lecturing Mother Theresa about not committing sins.

Some people find anything to write about these days. What is wrong with wanting to be the few to go undefeated. I would toast champagne...heck I would throw a party if the Colts lose next week. What exactly are these guys doing wrong by the way..celebrating?

Thank god somebody is bringing this up. I for one have lost sleep worrying about how the 72 Dolphins would handle the situation and what the longterm ramifications would be if they handled it poorly or classlessly. I have often seen the 72 Dolphins celebrate their accomplishment and thought, "How selfish can you be, celebrating when a team loses, just so you can be the only team that ever went undefeated?" It's as if they think they did something special, or that it's something to be proud of. I don't think it's great to go out and beat every other team during a single season even though it's been almost 35 years and no one else has done it. If Indy does it too, then the Dolphins will finally see that they aren't so special that they should have a tradition like drinking champagne to celebrate some silly undefeated season.

I do however think that they would handle it with class because they've never handled it any other way.

 I had to wipe the sarcasm off the screen!

For years there has always been a debate whether or not the 72' team is classless for doing the conference call and popping the cork when that final team loses. Some people see no problem with it while others see it as a team that is rooting for teams to lose for their own personal gratification.

Classless?thats Bull. :yell:

I root for other teams to lose, for my own personal gratification, every Sunday.

I think someone spends a little to much time listening to Jim Rome, who can't stand any great achievement not accomplished by someone from California.

Nice post Blue....GO 72 Phins!

I also will enjoy watching the Colts lose this season. And I am rooting for them to lose. Does that make me a bad fan of the NFL wanting a team other than my favorite to lose? This guy needs to find something else to write about.

I think the bashing of the 72 team's annual celebration is just a bunch of el toro caca! That is a great source of pride for this organization and even moreso for the men who made that achievement. Plus I love pissing people off by rubbing that in their faces!

These sports writers need to chill on drinkin that joe in the morning cause
Jealous
Ones
Envy

And I see it everytime a little Jets fan or Colts fan or whoever ******* about some celebration. Yea maybe it is selfish, but isn't that the nature of winning in sports? And so what if they're not playin anymore, they do wanna feel special about something that no one has done.

I skimmed the article posted, and stopped when I saw the part about team with the best chance since 72. Seems like the 98 Broncos where forgotten about, they looked much more impressive. So will the 05 Colts be forgotten the next time a team goes 10-0? or 11-0? Probably, especially if they finish 15-1 this year or 14-2 and win a Super Bowl, like them 98 Broncos.
