This is really not a news article by the Palm Beach Post, but more of a speculation of what could happen if certain events take place.

http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...nnie-holliday-playing-a-waiting-game-for-now/

With all the question marks on the Dolphins’ defensive line, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Bill Parcells and Co. might consider bringing Vonnie Holliday back sometime before the start of the season.

It won’t happen right away. We spoke with Holliday’s agent, Fort Lauderdale-based Cary Fabricant, last week and he said they understand it will likely be a few weeks into training camp before anything could happen.

But it still could happen.
It’s somewhat surprising Holliday 33, hasn’t found work. But that could prove a godsend if he remains on the sidelines and the Dolphins find themselves in need of line help due to either injuries or inconsistency as training camp and the preseason move along.

i'm gonna cross my fingers on that one. would love to have vonnie back. i still don't understand that release. it's not like langford and merling don't have more to learn and it's not like we have a better teacher on our roster. he was a team captain for a damn good reason.

I wouldnt call starks a capable backup, I think capable starter is more accurate but thats just me. I wouldnt mind Holiday back, I would take any leader from a team that made such a turnaroud in a heart beat...

We have plenty of DE's with Langford, Merling, Starks, McDaniel, Dotson.

All of them are young and getting better.. We don't need Vonnie next year. We needed him last year while the young guys were learning. I don't want to take up a roster spot with a soon-to-be 34 year old Vonnie at DE since we are deep at that position and we need the roster spot for other positions on the team (that have less depth).

A lot of people don't know that Starks was the best performer on the defensive line. Joyner had him at a 27% metric which was by far the highest metric win% on the defensive line. Starks is a starting caliber player.

You have to know when to let older players go and let the young guys develop.. That time for the DE positions is now.

If you guys are looking at the leadership angle on the defense, Vonnie will be replaced with Jason Taylor in that leadership role, and Fergy is a good veteran leader on the D-line already.

Releasing Vonnie Holliday was the only move i have not liked in the pass two years.I'd like to see him come back.

too much money on an older player. mr. reliable but not mr. full timer.

I think no one has picked him up becuase there is a winky winky kind of deal goin on here.

Vonnie can play DT. There is where we could end up in trouble. dude knows the system.

We run a 3-4.. He can't play NT in a 3-4 he is way too undersized.

Even in pass rush situations, we have the guys who can move over to DT in a pinch. We don't need Holiday.

Stop it with this nonsense. We have some very talented young linemen on the team and they need time in the trenches to develop. Not have a 34 year old taking plays while they are on the sideline watching.

This is not like the Jason Taylor situation because the team did not have 3-4 OLB's who can really get to the passer consistently (aside from Porter).. The Dolphins are deep at the DE positions and are deep in 3-4 type DE's.... Vonnie is not needed here, we need that roster spot for other positions.

We know we don't "need" him but he's a player alot of us like.

I liked him too. I liked his personality. Love the way he speaks.. I watched his press conference on aquavision again the other day after we beat the Jets and won the division.

He is a class act.

But ! Circumstances on the team dictate we need to move forward and use the roster spot (and money) elsewhere. We have to develop our young players, especially in an area where there is a lot of young talent at the DE positions. They will not get better by watching. They need serious reps in game situations to improve.. And we have depth at the position already.

I would much rather get a good veteran for depth at the ILB spot, O-line , NT, secondary if they don't look good in camp, instead of at DE. Where we need it a lot more.

Training camp is here, a lot of players will be cut at various positions when teams cut down their roster. We can find a good contributor or two for depth in other positions of more need to round out the team better.. Patience young grasshopper.

ahh i get what your saying but i'd still like to see him on the team.

But as far as his roster spot go's we seemed to have gave that to Tony McDaniel because we traded for him on March 20 and we cut Vonnie on March 2.

I get they want to get younger and all that BS but on 4th and 1 i want Vonnie in there not some guy how has not played very much.

I'd be totally for it if rosters were expanded by 5+ players.

Langford started on one side with Starks splitting time with him, Holliday started on the other side with Merling splitting time with him, no matter who starts they're going to split time, and as of right now, McDaniel, Dotson, Wright and whoever else, are not as good as Vonnie, until proven otherwise.

Here's hoping. Vonnie was one of my favorites, and as BobDole said, was a captain for a reason. But he was cut for cap reasons, so if he's willing to come back at a discount, I will gladly take him back no problems. Langford and Merling can learn alot from him.

Great point. DE's split alot of time last year, and I'd much rather have Vonnie out there than McDaniels, Dotson, or Wright. A rotation of Merling/Vonnie and Langford/Starks sounds great to me. But as I said before, only if he's coming back at a discount, because I'm pretty confident with our DE position.
