Let's face it, General Manager Randy Mueller and coach Cam Cameron won't be marrying their future to Culpepper. Would you?

Eighteen months after major knee surgery and five months after minor knee surgery, Culpepper still can't get on the field. The knee still isn't right, he says. It's still the "usual soreness," he says. It still needs more time to heal, he says.

Does Culpepper have a future here?

"It's a work in a progress," he said again. "And you guys understand why we don't stand up here and try to predict the future. It doesn't make sense."

Because as surely as Culpepper only rode a stationary bike Friday in the new Dolphins regime's first day of minicamp, it's clear by now the plan is for Culpepper to move on.

Another clincher: If the Dolphins had any intent to keep Culpepper, they would have downsized his contract to take his condition into account. And they haven't.

Do you agree.I dont. Why trade him when we could get so little for him.The Dolphins would probably have to cut him.

Wouldnt it be better to wait until he gets healthy ?

I'm in the minority I know but I'd be fine going into the season with Lemon, Culpepper, and a rookie.

Best case scenario Culpepper comes back and plays well, or Lemon steps in and does the job. Worst case scenario neither plays well and you see what your rookie has in him near the end of the season.

Speculation, speculation.

We're not so desperately strapped for cash that we need to cut Culpepper. He only gives us 1 million or something in savings this year. It is definitely worth it to us to give him one more shot and see how it pans out. We all know his abilities when healthy and it would be a crying shame if we cut him and he went on to succeed for another team. The Dolphins would be called boneheads for decades to come if that happened. In my opinion keeping Pep is a low risk, high reward deal. Keep Him!!!!

Ill tell all you guys one thing...In terms of Daunte's rehab, its all negative and the reports just keep getting worse. His rehab isnt going well whatsoever and because of this he is going to go down as one of the worst trades in Miami Dolphins history...Even worse than AJ Feeley (At least AJ beat a couple teams and actually played in 8 games - regardless of the outcome of those games).

In 10 years, we are all going to be looking back and someone is going to post "Worst trade senarios", or "worst QB's to ever be a fin" and Daunte will be close to the top of that list...Giving up a 2nd for a player who started only 4 games and won 1 for us will go down as one of the worst trades in the history of the franchise.

Now I am not bashing Daunte as I would have loved to have his caliber of player on our team, but lets face the facts here, everything is going wrong with his rehab, he is a Nick Satan guy not a Cam guy, Cam and Randy both say they are unsure about his future, and the way Cam and Randy cleared the roster with players that contributed more than Daunte, I just do not see them keeping him at all anymore. We all know Cam and Randy are far from happy or satisfied with Daunte's inability to recover.

Its too bad because I want any QB we get to succeed but the chances are he won't because of the injury, which is starting to look more and more like a career ending injury. He had one of the worst injuries a player can have. All the surgeries, medical reports indicates he is really not that much healthier than he was a year ago. We and more impoirtantly Daunte has to face the fact that his career may be over and Daunte as well as the Dolphins must move on.

This, to me, illustrates just why CPep IS still part of the plans. If they dumped McMike with marginal savings against the cap and lack of production, then why haven't they severed ties with CPep, if he were not still in their plans. Because the word out of camp is suddenly that his latest surgery was worse than originally reported and everything is downhill about him from there, why is he still here ?? To deter other teams from thinking we're desperate o r put up a smokescreen ?? I don't think so...

No, I think they still have CPep in our plans, pending what is done in the draft. Even if we get Quinn, I doubt they want him to start day one as a rookie...

Well we had depth at TE and a TE is far more expendable than a QB. I dont know why he is still here. Maybe because Randy is waiting until draft day to move up and package him with a couple picks, maybe he will be packaged with a Kansas city trade. But realistically, we have unitl June 1st for any cap savings to release him so really there isnt a rush to release him yet. I am just going from what all the reports have said and that Cam has not once said that Daunte will be part of the team in 2007. That was just the way I read it and at this point and as time progresses it seems to becoming more and more true that the above will be the more likely senario...

That is just my opinion and I would like to see him succeed but I just don't...He as well as us have to face the fact that Daunte's career could very well be over

Miami Herald: Looks like Culpepper is done

This should not have come as a surprise to me but it did today when I suddenly realized Daunte Culpepper doesn't have much of a future as the Dolphins quarterback anymore.

It is Friday afternoon and the last couple of days of talking to people both in private and group settings has led me to that conclusion so I am sharing what I am piecing together for you.

Not only has Cameron never said he thinks Culpepper will be healthy, he has not said Culpepper is Miami's quarterback even if he is healthy.

Instead Cameron has told owner Wayne Huizenga he's excited about the prospect of adding Trent Green. He has said Cleo Lemon will get a chance to compete for a starting job. He has said things that simply point me away from Culpepper being his guy.

Green is not a Dolphins player today but I think it will eventually happen. I know this because Green wants to be in Miami so much, he's already agreed to parameters of a contract with the Dolphins. And he's not negotiating with any other team, which is a necessary step if he were to be with any other team.

Another thing: I've been asking about Culpepper's cap status and have gotten the strange silent treatment from the team. Seems like the subject is taboo when typically the Dolphins are quite cooperative with such things for the sake of maintaining accuracy in the press.

Finally there is this: Even if Culpepper were healthy, there is a big question whether he's the type of quarterback Cameron would want running his offense. Culpepper, at his best. held the ball until the last possible moment, scanning the field, reading, trying to find an open receiver, always knowing he could run away from pressure if the weather in the pocket got too hot.

Cameron wants a more disciplined approach to quarterbacking. He wants a guy that can study the defense BEFORE the game even begins and knows what he's likely to see BEFORE it ever happens. That is simply not Culpepper's style. He ain't a bookworm quarterback, he's a make-things-happen-on-the-run quarterback.

And those are the reasons I don't think Daunte Culpepper will be the Dolphins quarterback.

I am loving the sound of this. Get that wasted space guy out of here.

I'd rather go into the season with Lemon and two rookies...at least theres a "chance" they might do something. DC is so done.

Good news for a change from Miami.

Dam, I would have liked to have seen a healthy Culpepper!

Myself included in that but it seems with what i am reading that Pep wont be playing for us this coming season. If we get Green we have to draft a QB surely. Will we Trade up to get Quinn? If not who will we go for? Interesting.

Well, thats just great, Green or Lemon as QB = 3-13 season. :rolleyes2

I'm not a huge Culpepper fan, but I'd like to see him stick this year and show what he can do. The most telling stuff, I think, is how Culpepper just doesn't fit Cameron's plans with regard to his style of play. I think that we'll draft a QB in the 1st 4 rounds, but I'm excited to see Cleo Lemon this year. He's talented, has been patient, and now he gets his shot at the brass ring. He must be licking his chops.
