Mel Kiper thinks so but I disagree. I don't think The Trifecta spends an early pick on a WR. I think it will be OL, DL, or LB. But what I am reading on Heyward-Bey is somewhat intriging.

Unpolished route runner that has a tendency to round off cuts and drift on occasion. Still has the burst to regularly separate from man coverage. Runs away from corners when running crossing routes.Ball Skills3Focus is inconsistent. Drops too many 'catchable' balls. Very good natural ball skills, though. Has a lot of potential in this area but needs more reps. Strong hands, does a nice job of snatching the ball out of the air, and can make catches without breaking stride. Displays good body control and can catch balls thrown below waist as well as above his shoulders. Does a nice job of tracking the ball downfield.Vertical Speed1Absolute burner and homerun threat. Goes from 0-60 mph instantly and has the second gear to run by corners at the NFL level.Run After Catch2Breakaway speed and can go the distance any time gets a seam but lacks ideal elusiveness and isn't going to make many defenders miss.Competitiveness and Toughness2Does a great job of fighting for the jump ball. Willing to go over the middle and make the tough catch in traffic. Doesn't deliver a violent punch and isn't a good blocker at this point.

Maryland WR Darrius Heyward-Bey has reportedly been cracking the 4.2s during test runs at the Athletes' Performance Institute.
Heyward-Bey ran 4.23 as a freshman in college. He's bigger than he was then, but the high 4.2s should be about right. DHB will draw a lot of attention this week. It will also be interesting to see how tall he actually is Thursday.

What I have a problem with is the fact that Kiper has us taking the FIFTH best wide receiver in the first round. It would be one thing to get the best or second best but fifth? No thanks.

Also, having us pass Oher is ridiculous.

I read on KFFL like 2 days ago that the front office already said we arent taking a WR in the 1st round. Kiper is a retard.

Heyward-Bey is Ted Ginn Jr. all over again. So, if you like raw, unpolished, track star, collegiate WR's. Heyward-Bey is your guy!

i really think kiper just ranks his players by 1-32 and then sticks them into the slot not even looking what a team would need or the tendencies the front offices have.

To me his thing is this are my top 32 players.

I am higher on this kid than many of you all on this board. Most are advocating Nicks, but I think DHB is going to be stellar in the NFL. Nicks may start faster, but DHB will be the better WR when it is all said and done.

Funny thing is, some have said pick 44 on here . . . if the kid runs his 4.25 40, and measures at 6'2 or taller . . . he probably wont make it to 25.

And don't knock his route running, the man can run routes and has hands better than people are crediting him for . . . I don't know how FA will be, but if we get Jason Brown and resign Carey, Crowder, Bell and Goody . . . I wouldn't have a problem going after DHB in round 1 and drafting Delmas or Rashad Johnson in round 2.

Guess we will see, but DHB is a very interesting prospect IMO.

If he runs a 4.2 he won't be anywhere near #25.

Yea I mean Chris Johnson ran a 4.24 and he rose from like a 2nd/3rd round pick to a late first rounder . . . so DHB already being considered a first round pick runs this and measures 6'2 or better . . . he probably goes top 15, and maybe as high as 7 to Oakland.

This guy is 6'3, 210, and runs a 4.2, only reason his stock isn't higher is because they rarely threw the ball in the offense he was in, but I'm sold this guy will be a stud for who ever picks him up.

I'd be all over him if he is there when we pick. But I can't see the Trifecta going WR in the first round.

that's a little far fetched

What I don't understand is when people run a great 40 time why do they rise up the draft boards?

DHB has been projected for years to be running in the 4.2's, in fact he did it as a freshmen. Shouldn't the speed already be accounted for in the grading of the prospect? No one will be surprised when he does it, why does it help him?
This should only hurt you, if you run a bad time and you are already graded as running a good one. I could see if someone runs a great 40 out of no where to rise up the boards, but not when its excepted.

Regardless 40 times mean very little. Speed in pads and speed on a track are different things. Plus there are many more important skills for recievers then 40 times.

DHB has amazing protential, but is a huge project. Clearly was not in a pass friendly offense in college, and is still really raw on running routes.

Very good point above, its just people seem to love the Madden ratings on players and do it as such. To be honest, I read an interesting article on that kid from Florida, who has the same exact measurables as DHB but can be had in the 3rd round most likely.
