Dolphins | Team could take a late run at M. Bennett
Fri, 7 Jul 2006 19:25:41 -0700
Jason Cole, writing for the Sporting News, reports the <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/22/nfl">Miami Dolphins could take a late run during training camp at New Orleans Saints RB Michael Bennett. The team already has talked to the Saints. The team may realize during training camp they need a better backup to starting RB Ronnie Brown.

We'll be fine with what we have. I don't like the idea of trading any draft picks.

Just so it doesn't cost us alot. But, doesn't Bennett have health issues???

he'll be a great backup, big speed I say yes to bennet jioning the dolphins give them eddie moore and a 7th rounder for him

Lamar Gordon??? what are you talking about.. explain one thing they have in common, and dont say injuries.

I hope not.

No reason to overpay for marginal talent.

Michael Bennett IS NOT marginal talent. When healthy, he is explosive and had a hell of a year a few years ago. His problem has been durability. It's cool not to want to sign him because of health problems, but let's face facts...he's a very talented player blessed with great speed and cursed with injuries the past couple of years.

I wouldn't mind us signing him for the vet minimum or a little more with incentive clauses thrown in.

can anyone say Lamar Gordon?

Has Lamar Gordon ever rushed for more than 300 yards in a season or broken a run longer than 30 yards? No.

Michael Bennett has had nineteen runs of 20+ yards (and this is with his injury problems), including an 85 yard run and a 61 yard run, which he did last year and has a career rushing average of 4.5 YPC in his five seasons in the league.

Lamar Gordon has had three 20+ yard runs in his five year career and has a career rushing average of 3.4 YPC in his four seasons in the league.

The only comparison you can make between the two men is they both play the same position.

Bennett has awesome speed, and quick. You guys think he can be a good KR.
He would be hard to tackle on returns. But can he catch kickoffs:rolleyes2

The Saints were talking about a first day pick.Thats ludicrous for an injury prone player.

He does have blazing speed but he doesnt make many moves.

If they have come down on their demands there may be some interest from the Dolphins.

As much as I like Morris I have my doubts whether he can be a full time starter if Brown goes down.

When the possibility of the dolphins acquiring him was first mentioned, I thought it would be a good idea. I also thought of him as an explosive talent. Largely due to his 2002 season. But if you look at his numbers, especially his AVG. recently, they are not all that impressive. In the '02 and '03 seasons his average is great, although he was running behind a very good offensive line for both seasons. He also had an offensive unit that was able to spread the field, which the Dolphins may have this season. I honestly don't know what to make of this guy. I wouldn't trade for him, but if he ends up being released I would definitely take a shot at him.
