Merged:Dolphins Interested in Darrell Russell??/Signed w/Wash

teams can't run outside on us, so they run up the middle. i can't decide if i want a great PR dt or a great RS dt. i always get pissed when we give up six yards up the gut.

Just playing devil's advocate here. If we WERE to get Russell here (and Timbo retire), you'd have both. Chester would still be your run stopper. Russell would be your pass rushing demon.....along with a pretty darn good run stopper.

Also, teams don't run much of anywhere on us. I don't see a whole lot of 6-yard gains inside. I think that's more of a case where they catch us trying to do something else (DEs charging upfield/outside, etc). You're not going to hold everyone to negative yardage/2-yard gains on every play in the NFL. So it's going to happen sometimes.

I think teams try run outside because they can't run inside. You always start from the inside out. Shorter distance to travel. But we defend the perimeter very well. So it's an all-around long day for RBs. :)

According to the Washington Post, the Phins are among the interested party in newly reinstated DT Darrell Russell. I heard something about the Phins really interested in a defensive lineman out west. But didn't know it was Russell. If this is true, then I say "WTF??

This is the guy who's been busted for coke and somehow got aquitted in the case where he gave a woman a date rape drug and videotaped his friends having intercourse with her. He's been suspended twice and hasn't played since 2001.

Russell was the #2 overall pick in 1997 and is still only 27 years old. At 6-5, 325 lbs, he guy is a super athlete and a phenomal pass rushing DT. He went to the Pro Bowl in 1998 and 1999, combining for 19.5 sacks those two years and has 28.5 overall in 5 seasons.

But he was also a turd and a bad teammate (along with a questionable character off the field). And even with that trial hanging over his head last year, he still was the same kind of guy. He says he's a new man these days and that he's learned from his past.

If he has indeed turned over a new leaf, would you give him a shot?? Do you think he is telling the truth?? Or is he still a scumbag??

Uuuugh !! i'd say let the crackhead alone and let the D stand pat, they're doing well overall. Tweek the O a little instead if wee do anything.

As long as the deal is cap friendly and we can cut him with little damage if he screws up, why not?

Why do we need another DT? Chester susposedly isnt all that hurt, and Zgonina/Bowens are doing fine?

He's only 27 a lot of football left in him, Bowens and Zgonia are in their 30's, I think Wanny is looking long term as well as just this season. Not a bad move if you can structure his contract to account for his behavior. Then you might have something..Again he's proven vet. with years left..it's worth looking into..

can you say cecil Collins and Dimetrius underwood???

Our track record with the cons ain't too good, bro !! ;)

well if he is not that so called "locker room cancer" and he gets his act together, i would be all for it to sign him but i think the skins have the edge in signing him

I thought about him when chester got injured. i'd certainly give hi a shot for the minimum, too much upside not to.

We won't outbid the Skins though, the rape was completely consentual. It was proven in the trial, she got embarassed about taking ectasy with these people and getting gang banged. Can't say I blame her for being embarassed, the jury came back in 15 minutes with not guilty. The only thing he did was something over half of the college students in America have done, try ecstasy.

I heard he was a bad guy in the locker room though. I'd snatch him if we could. Never too many big bodies down below.

"the rape was completely consentual."...um...someone may want to define "rape" for you sometime.

I think he meant to say.......

"The 'rape' was consentual"

I think he could be some good depth and let him compete, but I don't see us outbidding Washington for him. They just seem to have a)more $ and b)more of a glaring need, thus more incentive to pay more.

If he will play for the minimum, than he would be an excellent signing. He was an excellent player in Oakland but personal problems messed up his career.

no, i would draft a rookie DT. there will be some good ones out there.

Why do always try to start trouble with me Phinphan?

I think it was very clear from my post what I was saying. Damn.

Uhhh, having lived in the Bay Area for most of my life and through Darrell Russell's debacles, I would say no. He has had multiple run ins with the law and his teammates were about ready to mutiny if he stayed with Oakland. I would much rather he go to Washington and take out chances with Romero, Zgonina and the rest.

I agree, if he is a headcase, then cut him.
