02/07...Quick Hits...The Minnesota Vikings signed Edmonton Eskimos linebacker Kenny Onatolu... the Vikings were able to outbid the Dolphins, Jets and Buccaneers who were also interested in his services...elsewhere...the Washington Redskins are reportedly close to signing Edmonton Eskimos DE Brandon Guillory...Guillory led all Eskimos in sacks (six) in 11 regular-season games last season, and has nine sacks in 14 career CFL games
Haha teams trying to find diamonds in the rough in the CFL?

Makes sense. Many of those guys were former college football players, and while on paper they might not project well some guys just end up making a name for themselves?

Hmm. Must mean that MIA is either still looking for LB help....or are trying to avoid using a high pick on one. Whichever it is...for what it's worth:

I'm not sure we were outbid....at least financially. seems like an assumption of the writer. maybe he preferred to play in a 3-4...or maybe liked Minnesota's location (is he actually from Canada?).

I don't think either way that a marginal signing like this would have had ANY influence on what we do at the top of the draft...could have affected what we do in the 7th round.

yea what's upwith the Canada theme?

talent and depth, keep doing it, you can only find diamonds if you dig

Well I think drafting a linebacker in the first round is not a good deal for miami I think we should look at basement bargin deals for linebacker and safety and use the draft for de, dt and wr and ot.

Why not? Rookie LB's have really been excelling lately

Not a real big deal. Most of these CFL players are just bodies for training camp. We landed the premier CFL talent this year in Cameron Wake.

is signing players from CFL becoming something bigger now?

Since NFL Europe came to an end, the NFL has expanded their ways on where to acquire more players. They always had the CFL and Arena League outlets and used it, but not to the extent you will probably see from now on.
