The starting QB is almost always a captain, regarless of how well they play on the field. It is just the nature of the position that those guys have to be leaders. I would be more worried if he WASN'T a captain. All the guys have said they respect him and his command in the huddle, his production on field has just been lacking.

The team wanted him a captain. It's not like Saban chose him by himself.

Looks like the players are trying to rally around their current QB.

I like the meassage. I don't think it is ideal but Saban is doing something here that people seem to be missing. The QB is the leader of the offense regardless, he is what ultimately makes this team go. Saban is recognizing that and saying hey, this is our guy, he is a leader and we need to rally around him.

Personally, like I said, I like the thought. The QB should always be a leader imo. I just wish this leader didn't emind me of Custer...

the players elect the captains........so anyone on here who claims to know who should be the captains more so than the players themselves is a kidding themself. they are the players. they make up the team. you are the fan, who's opinion doesn't mean jack **** in this (along with mine).

I understand the qb should be a captain, but it is still going to be embarrassing for gus to be riding the pine and being a "leader" at the same time. This is going to be a long season for the qb position anyway you slice it. Considering the injury potential with this line and the bad play of the qbs it wouldn't surprise me if saban didn't hold tryouts for qb mid season. Like the strike year where the local dog catcher was the qb.

I disagree with the selection of Gus. I think Randy would be a better choice. But who knows if either one of them will be here next year. I don't really care about Frerotte but I really hope Mcmike agrees to a long term extension.

Great to see that the players are rallying around Gus, hell they voted him team captain. I honestly would have guessed it would have been Randy McMichael over Frerotte despite what happened during the offseason.

I wondered about gus as the pick but it was a player vote! But why do you guys say Randy? He is a great player but I have never seen leadership from him!
