MERGED: Dolphins re-sign Soliai to 2 year deal

yeah..thanks ireland...thanks for all youve done for us guy

No, really, it's far more rational to slam him when he does something that is undeniably a good move. Really, very classy, keep up the good work.

At $6M a year, i likethe deal. It allows us to stay in the 3-4, which we built our defense for the past few years. But it doesn't break the bank and still allows us flexibility to use a hybrid 4-3 from time to time. As much as people don't think he adds a lot to the pass rush b/c he doesn't personally....what he does do is tie up 2 blockers and free up others. He would OWN any center in the league 1-on-1 and push them right back in a QBs face.

Oh, and staying in a 3-4 allows us to draft one of my favorite players in the draft.....Shea McClellin. He's perfect for the 3-4 hybrid.

I wish there was any way possible to get Mario Williams. Makes me nauseous to think about the Jills possibly getting him.

Wouldn't be surprised if Ross shifted his attention to Williams as his flashy signing to get butts in the seats.  Of course, that also makes Miami a great tool to use for more leverage against Williams' preferred landing spot(s).

Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post reports that the [URL="http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thedailydolphin/2012/03/14/miami-dolphins-re-sign-nose-tackle-paul-soliai-but-does-it-take-them-out-of-running-for-peyton-manning/"]Dolphins have re-signed
defensive tacklePaul Soliai.
While it was commonly believed Soliai would exit Miami because he isn’t quite as good a system fit for the club’s new 4-3 defense as the old 3-4, the Fins still valued Soliai’s run-stopping ability.
And they got him at a price they liked. Per Volin, Soliai’s deal is for $12 million over two seasons, with $6 million guaranteed. Soliai will reenter free agency when the NFL’s new TV money kicks in, in 2014.
Soliai’s return to South Beach takes the top pure nose tackle off the free agent market. Aubrayo Franklin is a distant No. 2, coming off a subpar season in New Orleans and set to turn 32 this summer.
The Dolphins could still use an explosive left end, but they have some quality pieces in place to execute new coordinator Kevin Coyle’s defense up front. Soliai, Jared Odrick, top pass rusher Cameron Wake, and active defensive tackle Randy Starks form an impressive nucleus. They will be very difficult to run against.

wow, 6 million for him..what does that leave us wiht now? 8 million give or take?

frankly i'm shocked that he didn't have more of a market for a long term deal elsewhere...anyways i like this move and the money...i think solia has some ability to play inside in 4 man fronts also whereas with langford i don't see that...anyways solia is young enough where at the end of this contract he can still put himself back on the market for one more final big contract pay day provided his play stays at a high level

thought for sure he was gone...welcome back paul...hybrid d or not without a high end nose your toast

So that's why we traded Marshall...

Good lord...

Well considering that Marshall might not even play half a season (IF THAT!), then I'm glad we traded away Marshall. Bears are taking a huge risk for a guy that could be suspended at least half a season.

And great job keeping Soliai with us. Definitely a good deal considering it will only cost us 4 mill against the cap this season. I hope we focus on the offense now. We could definitely use some playmakers there.

$6 million/year for a two down nose tackle who is on again/off again. Please remind me who will rush the passer when Cam Wake is double teamed?

only $4 mil against the cap in 2012??? how much money total is guaranteed??? looks like a pretty good deal to me...

Soliai has been superb since the end of 2010 and all of 2011.

They will find ways to utilize him in the passing game.

It's a bargain at $6 million per year.
