MERGED: Dolphins re-sign Soliai to 2 year deal

Great deal for a solid Defensive tackle. Glad we kept Soliai over Langford.

Starks - Soliai - Odrick in 3 man fronts and kick Odrick out to DE in the 4-3 along with Wake, sprinkle in some Merling and McDaniel and add another pass rusher, our DLine remains a strong point.

4-3 D..... Wake, Starks, Soliai, Odrick?

Odrick is a monster but does not belong as a 4-3 DE.
 
Love this move for the price we got him for. His heart is truly in Miami.

I think in general too much emphasis is being placed on "scheme". Put your best players on the field, whether in a 3-4 look or a 4-3 look. Soliai took time to develop, but you saw glimpses at the end of 09, signs of dominance by the end of 2010 and he ended the year strong last year. Kevin Carter wasn't necessarily an ideal 4-3 DE, he was built like the perfect 3-4 DE . . . yet he was effective as a 4-3 DE with several teams. I think Odrick is more talented than Carter and will have success in a 4-3 at end. Vonnie Holiday had like 10 sacks for us one year as a DT, played DE in a 4-3 and was being looked at as an OLB towards his later years with us. He was also a 3-4 DE with us during our "3-4" years.

Just put solid football players on the field and let them go to work, it will be all good.
 
Somebody please confirm the numbers. Rotoworld has it at 2 year 18 million. If its 2 years 12 million I like the deal

It is 2 years for $12 million ($6 million guaranteed) for sure.

Rotoworld has been off their game today. Had several wrong stories.

Im cool with that then. He is a good player just dont think he is elite. About the contract I valued for him. He must have not been getting great offers is all one can assume.

Supposedly he left money on the table with Denver in the mix. He gave the Phins a hometown discount.

Also, it's only a two year deal, so Soliai will get his BIG contract in 2014. That's when the new TV deal is poured into the salary cap.
 
Soliai has more pass rushing moves than you think. He has just spent a good portion of his career playing a very thankless positon. He was drafted to play in a 4-3 don't forget.

maybe he will and if he gets one at that time he will have earned it unlike the big contract his agent tried to get last year
