here's a little more info when he was coming out in '02

MIKE PEARSON, FLORIDA

Height: 6-7Weight: 292Birthdate: Aug. 22, 1980ANALYSISIn Gator country, they don't come any bigger than Mike Pearson. At 6-foot-7, Pearson is taller than his former teammate, current Tampa Bay Buccaneer Kenyatta Walker, and he is just as heralded. As a part of the Gators, Pearson helped the team run all the way to the Orange Bowl in 2001. The Gators averaged 4.2 yards per carry in 2001, thanks to an offensive line anchored by Pearson. WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
clear.gif
"Pearson is a solid offensive player. He has played several positions on the line in his career and this points out his versatility and talent. He is solid in pass protection and does an excellent job of sliding out and picking up speed rushers. He is strong at the point, plays with good technique, and has a solid understanding of the game."
 Football Corner
"A phenomenal talent at offensive tackle that would easily be the No. 1 player at his position most years. Excellent size and overall athleticism, and is a fine blocker in both the passing and running game. The fact that Pearson, as a sophomore, kept 2001 first-round choice Kenyatta Walker playing right tackle in an offense built around the pass as much as the Gators' is simply a testament to this kid's ability."
Rob "Boomer" Rang MOMENTUMIf Pearson can follow in the footsteps of other UF tackles, including Walker, he can be a solid addition in the NFL. Very rarely is someone both underaged and experienced, but Pearson is both of those, and he will definitely raise some eyebrows in April.

Assets Very fast. Can pull and block on the move. Excellent height and wingspan. Has improved as a pass protector. Smart and competitive, with good technique.
Flaws Long and lean for a tackle. Has leverage issues and gets off balance at times. Gets flagged too often.
Career potential Adequate starter.

2004: Played and started in four games before injuring his left knee against Indianapolis on Oct. 3 … Had streak of 31 consecutive starts and 36 consecutive games played before being placed on injured reserve on Oct. 5 … Underwent reconstructive surgery … .

2003: Played and started in all 16 games … Member of an offensive line that allowed the fewest sacks in team history with 28, and blocked for Fred Taylor, who rushed for a career-high and team-record 1,572 yards … Helped tutor rookie Vince Manuwai who started 14 games at left guard … .

2002: Played in all 16 games, starting final 11 games of the season … Played on extra point and field goal units in first five games … Took over at left tackle in Game 6 after injury to Maurice Williams caused a shuffle at both offensive tackle positions. Made first NFL start Oct. 20 at Baltimore, playing entire game, going up against Ravens’ Michael McCrary and Peter Boulware, as Fred Taylor rushed for 151 yards … Played every offensive snap in all 11 starts … On Nov. 10 vs. Washington (coached by his college coach, Steve Spurrier), held Bruce Smith to one solo tackle and no sacks … Declared for NFL draft as a junior and selected in the second round, the 40th choice overall and fifth offensive tackle drafted after Mike Williams, Bryant McKinnie, Levi Jones and Marc Columbo.

Maybe Houck can get the best out of him. He was rated by some as the 3rd best OT and a possible 1st round pick in 2002. He was considered by many to be the most athletic Tackle in the draft. He started 27 games before his knee injury. Who knows.
