I know every time a player gets released or is rumored to be available, chatter boxes all over NFL-land go nuts speculating that this player might go here or there. Since Domanick Davis hails from my hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana, I'll participate in this usually futile excercise.
But this particular situation I think merits serious consideration for a couple of reasons.
DD has been injured and unable to practice on a regular basis in TC. Gary Kubiak, the new coach isn't particularly thrilled about this...and has let it be known publicly. He has stated that the Texans are prepared to go into the season with Wallly Lundy and Vernon Merancy <sp> as their top two backs.
We know that Nick Saban isn't pleased with our current RB situation and is looking to upgrade the spot. Being that Saban is very famaliar with Davis and likes his former players also adds to the possibilities that Davis could end up in Miami.
If this were to happen, I think this would be a big upgrade for us. Davis is a true third down back. Thats what he was at LSU. LaBrandon Toefield got most of the carries and DD ran back punts and played in specific situations. It wasn't until he got to Houston that he became an every down back.
This would be great for us and him. If would could get a player like Davis and get him healthy by the bye week, our offense would be greatly improved going into the meat of the schedule.
I will be watching this very closely.
