Dolphins Sign Eric Green As A Free Agent

The Miami Dolphins today signed free agent cornerback Eric Green to a multi-year contract. The 26-year-old Green is a veteran of four NFL seasons, all with the Arizona Cardinals, who made him a third-round draft choice in 2005.

Green has amassed 169 tackles, 2 interceptions, 31 passes defensed, seven forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries in his career, during which time he has played in 51 regular season games, having started 33 of them. In 2008 with the NFC Champion Cardinals, the 5-11, 196-pounder started 5 of the 12 games in which he appeared at cornerback and posted 39 tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery along with a forced fumble as well as two special teams stops.

Can't wait to see all the fake excitement over "Eric Bleepin Green".

Non-impact signing that will follow in the Wilford, McCown mold.

The top 5 corners in the draft would start IMMEDIATELY over him without hesitation.

sounds decent. not great, but serviceable.....

I know this may not be as exciting a signing as we would like...but consider this:

1. Up to this point, there hasnt been much difference between the career of Bryan McFadden and Eric Green. They both came out the same year - McFadden was a late 2nd rd pick that year by Pitt. and Green was an early 3rd rd. pick by Ariz. Their amount of starts, tackles and passes defensed are very similar. McFadden does have a few more picks. But, McFadden was looking for 5-6 million a year and got it with Ariz. we probably signed Green for 2 million a year or so. Also, keep in mind, that one year ago - Green was a "restricted free agent" and the Cardinals gave him a contract of 2 million a year...that if matched, they would have gotten a 3rd rd pick. So this was someone they liked very much just a year ago...in fact, he started the first 9 games of the season before getting injured - starting over a first round pick in Rodgers-Cromartie.

2. Eric Green's 4 year career to this point has been very similar (actually a little better) than Andre Goodman's 4 year career when we signed him in free agency. So, I think we are getting a similar player to Goodman...for less money and a lot younger.

Eh, I expected more. But who knows, maybe this guy can perform here. I hope we hit on a good corner in the Draft.

From Rotoworld:

Dolphins signed CB Eric Green to a multi-year contract.

Green probably has first dibs on the right corner spot vacated by Andre' Goodman. A former starter in Arizona, the 27-year-old lost his job to Domonique Rodgers-Cromartie in 2008. Green has talent, though, and Miami got the most out of all its DBs last season. Green is still going to face competition.
