MERGED-Giants fire defensive coordinator Lewis/Could hire Capers

I hear we interviewed him pretty much because Dan Marino asked us to, good friends. Hopefully thats about as far as it goes.

He is one of the first candidates that will probably be eliminated .

2 coaches don't share Miami's philosophy

Of the three assistants interviewed Wednesday, the Giants' Tim Lewis and the Lions' Mike Martz have expressed views contrary to what the Dolphins want for the near future.

BTW Marino was recommending Jim Fassel during the last coaching search.

with all due respect to Dan, he quit on us and we really don't need any more candidates

I posted the same thing in the VIP area, it also had this tidbit

There have been reports that Miami defensive coordinator Dom Capers, who worked with Coughlin in Jacksonville, will run the defense if he is not promoted to the top job with the Dolphins.

If that's the case I absolutely want to bring Cam Cameron in here now! Highest scoring offense + 3rd ranked defense = Super Bowl!

Capers would run the Giant's defense, not ours. The quote assumes you know it's referring to the Giants.

Look, I love Marino and Shula, but I'm suspicious that the only reason we're bringing them in to consult on this coaching job is because WH wants them to rah-rah-rah the choice after it's made.

I couldn't care less about "making a big splash" publicity-wise with this choice... I want the right guy who's committed to the job and I want to give him time to do it.

Tim Lewis and Jim Fassel? Thanks but no.

Capers to Leave for the Giants?

Dolphins defensive coordinator Dom Capers is reportedly "an early favorite" to move into the same post with the Giants. Capers worked under Tom Coughlin in Jacksonville and is a supporter of the 3-4 defense. Other than Osi Umenyiora, New York's ends are small and Mathias Kiwanuka and Michael Strahan aren't OLB types. On paper, Capers doesn't seem a good fit barring a free-agent spending spree.

I believe he cant leave unless its a promotion not a lateral movement. The only way outside of that is if wayne grants him permission, otherwise he cant leave on his own will..

:)
