This is interesting:

Giants | Team terminates offer for K. Allen
Sat, 15 Apr 2006 07:18:12 -0700
Mike Garafolo, of the Star-Ledger, reports the <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/26/nfl">New York Giants have terminated their tender offer to restricted free agent DT Kenderick Allen, making him an unrestricted free agent. The move was still a bit of a surprise as the Giants are thin at defensive tackle after losing DT Kendrick Clancy to the Arizona Cardinals on the first day of free agency.

Heres the info:

LSU guy, young but experienced, excellent size, would make a nice addition as a reserve DT in our rotation.

I dont know if we would have interest, but when I saw he was an LSU guy, it definitely increases the chances.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't mind bringing him in. He is young and Saban coached him before, so Saban should know how to use him in the right way of this defense.

There may be a reason why they didn't give him a new contract...

I'm sure the Sabanator has it covered...

We sure could use a dt. I was just look at some projected draft boards thinking that if any of those dt's projected ahead of us slip, they could end up in aqua...

Sure there is a reason- but Giants fans seem to think its an awful move (see link posted above). And Nick will know him better then anyone, so we'll see.

arent we good at dt with traylor, zgonia, wright, and vickerson. well i guess i another wouldnt hurt if he isnt asking too much.

Well, Carter plays mostly at DT. But we do need to get younger at the position, and I wouldnt mind replacing Zgonina if this kid has as much talent as some Giant fans seem to think.

being from ny and seeing him play everyweek sign him now saban and capers could turn this guy into a monster hes only been in the league for 3 years i think and he could and he had his best year last year and we could probably sign him for cheap i really hope we sign him

This is an interesting situation. Saban did say that we needed to get younger in the defensive front. Adding this guy would surely do that. Getting this guy would also add some insurance in case Vickerson can't contribute.

The first two you mentioned are nearing the end. Wright showed promise but he's still needs to work on his work ethic, and Vickerson is coming off a season ending injury. Another tackle would push the younger two, so they dont think there spot on the roster is a given.

The Giants are pretty thin a DT. Hopefully Bunkley, Ngata or Watson are still sitting on the board when we pick. Moving down to the Giants pick and picking up there second would be fine by me. Cromartie, Whitner, Ryans, Allen. One of those four should still be available with the Giants pick.

It makes you wonder why they don't want him. I am from NY and hear Giants fans saying how badly they need DL help, so for the Giants to just turn their back on a good young player is not a good sign IMHO. Maybe he has an injury or has some legal issues (substance test) on the horizon. Or maybe they just feel they want to go in another direction. I don't really think we need a DT, but what do I know. :confused2
