Greg Ellis could become Available

Despite the somewhat obvious message delivered when the Cowboys drafted two outside linebackers over the weekend, veteran pass rusher Greg Ellis isn’t sweating his future in Dallas.

According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, Ellis, who had griped in the past and raised the issue of whether he could be cut or traded when the team added Anthony Spencer a few years ago, isn’t worried about the presence of incoming rookies Victor Butler and Brandon Williams.

Guys I would love to see JT as a Fin, but Ellis is two years younger and is a Parcells guy and could come cheaper. He is also a Parcels guy. Could get interesting guys. This guy is also coming of a 8 sack season and knows the system. Real nice two year solutuon.

You only trade for players if its an immediate need. We certaintly have someone in the mold of Ellis now and that is Merling.

I wouldn't trade for him but if he was available via Free Agency...... why not? You can never have enough good LB's. I mean it wouldn't hurt to take a look and see if he could help us.

Ellis is an OLB so I dont see why you compare him to Merling. Roth is the guy who fits Ellis mold. If Ellis is released I could see the Trifecta inquiring, but then the thing becomes who is the odd man out. Anderson is much younger and a ST ace as is Walden and I could see Miami keeping five OLB and three ILB.

I think with Porter and JT already here, if we were to trade for Ellis we would have to be suspected of hoarding old outside linebackers, similar to crazy cat ladies who keep collecting cats!

No thanks, he is too old and complains too much. Let him go to Browns,KC or Denver. they need 3-4 lbers.

If we're going to add depth to the linebacking core, shouldn't that depth be young (developmental) talent?
