Heath Benedict ,OT Newberry died.

A 3rd or early 4th round prospect. Natural Causes was the COD (wow, natural Causes from a 21 year old and a guy in good shape). he must have had an unknown condition that caused his death. that is unfortunate because i herd he was an awesome guy and a heck of a player.

Newberry (S.C.) College offensive lineman Heath Benedict was found dead in his Florida home Wednesday night, apparently of natural causes, according to broadcast reports.
Two television stations in Jacksonville, Fla., reported on their websites that homicide detectives were called to Benedict's home about 7 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found Benedict, 24, dead on his couch.
Police told the television station that they did not suspect foul play, drugs or alcohol in Benedict's death. Benedict's body was taken to the medical examiner, according to the TV report.

Is this for real? If so that's horrible. My condolences to his family and loved ones. What was the cause of death, heart attack?

If this is serious, then I suggest changing the thread title to death OF an OT prospect, not TO. It sounds disrespectful.

Sometime people have hidden conditions. It dosen't matter how good a shape you're in, suddenly out of nowhere...That's it. It's a sad story.

oh ya that is for real, i wouldnt lie about something like this. it is a shame to, a young athlete dieing of "natural causes".

Real shame , a similar thing happened in Scotland a few months back when Phil O'Donnell (a pro soccer player) dropped dead during a match due to an unknown heart problem . Condolences to his friends and family.

HOCM rears its ugly head yet again?

very sad thing... maybe he was trying too hard, pumping iron and doing some conditioning to impress scouts...his body didn't follow... very sad

could have alot of people that are 320+ that are very active and stressed out could very easily have heart failure.

Wow, he was a talented prospect that I thought we may even take a look at in Round 4. Sad to see that he died at such a young age.

Merged: OG Prospect Heath Bennedict dies

New from PFT:

Heath Benedict, an offensive lineman who played at Newberry College and who was expected to be a mid-round draft choice in 2008, died on Wednesday.

Benedict, 25, played initially at Tennessee and then transferred to the Division II school. The Sporting News draft guide had Benedict ranked as the ninth-best guard in the class, and projected him to be a fourth-round selection.

A source with knowledge of the situation says that police have ruled out foul play. Published reports indicate that drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as well.

I have the Sporting News draft guide and they described him as "chiseled" and "made out of stone." Very sad.

Wow, anybody with the name Heath should watch out it seems not to be their year.

what an awful thread title

I am glad you won't be eulogizing him
