What happened to the run?

I've been replaying the game in my head and I can't come up with a solid reason as to why we gave up on the run. The only TD came from a run and it had some amazing blocking with Ronnie Brown looking unstoppable. It seemed like they were using the run as a last resort only and I have no idea why.

Theories?

Huge Problem: PLAY CALLING

OK Guys, we had 8 runs in the first half - 2 of them to Chambers. We ended up with a total of 18 runs. 3 of those were to Chambers. Same thing happened last week. Ronnie had a great game against the Bills in terms of yards per carry. But he had (I believe) 17 carries. This week, Ricky and Ronnie combined had 14 carries. Ricky had 5 carries, Ronnie 9. WTF is that? This is why we have lost the past two weeks. Hell, I like the pass as much as the next person. But balance is the way to be successful Our strength is our running game. We are playing away from our strength. People want to blame Gus. But think about: ALOT of responsibility is being thrown on his shoulders by the play calling that shouldn't be and doesn't have to be. Linehan needs to realize the talent we have behind Gus and quit focusing everthing on the passing game. Gus isn't awful, but he isn't great by any means either. He'd be much more efficient if we ran more often and made the defense more honest. Our O-line got ran over by a 4 man rush today. That 4 man rush would have been slowed down had we ran earlier and more often. This has got to change. We HAVE to run more. Or we'll see more of the same results we saw today.

Our Biggest problem offensively in my opinion

The biggest problem with our offense is our offensive coordinator, (NOT SABAN, he doesnt even do anything on offence he gives Linehan full control) now im not saying Linehan is a bad coordinator but his system is not right for our personel. Linehan with the vikings was always pass happy, with the 3 reciever sets and rarely ran the ball. 1. how many times have we said during or after games we need to run the ball more. this is NOT Linehans system. We have 2 running backs in Ronnie Brown and Ricky Willams where we need to be a run first team, and we dont have the QB to execute the pass first offense like when he has Culpepper in Minnesota, our 2 running backs only ran the ball 14 times, we need it be running the ball 25-30 times a game with the talent we have at RB, im not saying go back to Wanny's style run all the time everytime, but we are not a minnesota, St.Louis, Philly type of team, we need ronnie and ricky to run the ball. There is no point of drafting a talent like Ronnie if we dont plan on using him, and bringing ricky back, we should have drafted, traded for, or somehow aquired a quaterback that can execute this pass first offense.

yeah he made some stupid play calls today. dont liek him at all. we hardly ran the ball in the first half . then gus fumbled the ball away and the d gave up a td

I agree! Running successfully opens up the passing game. It's a basic tenent of football that Linehan has no grasp on. Can he come up with creative plays? Yes. Do they include the RB's? Rarely.

It's sickening to think that with the talent we have in the backfield, this is best he could come up with. Go away Linehan.

I agree that we are not running the ball NEARLY enough.

PArt of the issue is pre-snap penalties. When we are constantly starting 1st and 15 the running game has to get shut down a little bit.

Another issue is the 8 man fronts we've been seeing. We can't just slam it in there on 1st and 2nd down facing 8 man fronts and hope to break one....next thing you know it is 3rd and 8 and we're screwed.

The solution to the running woes is passing the opponent out of 8 man fronts.

We are one of those teams that has to pass to set up the run. Until teams fear our passing game they willl play 8 man fronts and dare us to pass...and I don't blame them.

cmon people, did you see what happen every time that we try to run? Tampa Bay is one of the best teams stopping the run.

I think coaching is OK, we need better players.

THen what is your excuse for Ronnie only running 17 times against Buffalo?

I agree as well, this is the best post I have read all day and the Miami organization needs to read this one.

I'm not calling Linehan bad either, but we need to get a damn identity with our offensive. I understand there needs to be some mystery to it, but COME ON!!...we have 2 good backs that many teams would wish they had, and we hardly run the damn ball. There is no flow to our calling...it's like run or pass is picked out of a hat.

best example..3rd and 2 and we pass the ball for an incompletion when we have RONNIE BROWN AND RICKY WILLIAMS!!

What would you people be saying if we had gone up against the #1 run defense in the league, run the ball all day, and had 3-and-outs all day?

Wait -- I have the answer:

Bad play-calling?

what logical conclusion besides just being a PITA are you referring to that we said we wanted to run the ball every play?

it has nothing to do with the defense, we didnt even try to run against them, 14 carries to our running backs all games is unacceptable, you need balance, ALL year we are only averaging like 17 carries a games, and like 2 or 3 a games goto chambers on reverses, its been ALL year not just this game

That 3rd & 2 call killed me. Hands down the worst playcall all year.

Run the ball! What more can be said? Linehan has been overcomplicating things. Chill out and get back to the basics. Use your cute plays when the time calls for it.

So because they have the #1 rushing defense in the league means that we should only have given Ricky and Ronnie 3 carries each in the first half and a total of 14 combined? Please! With our 2 backs and the power they have, we could have worn the Tampa defense down and kept their pass rush WAY more honest. Instead, they pinned their ears back and bum-rushed our line without having to blitz. We HAVE to run the ball and be more balanced. I don't care who we're playing.

I'm with you. I was pissed about that call.
