Im not convinced
..that the Patriots are just as good as they were the past few years. They lost two coordinators and a few key players to free agency and injury. Bellicheck is a smart coach and is one of the best in the league, maybe all-time. But I am not convinced that this is the same team that won three of the last four Super Bowls. This is why:
-They beat a very, very bad Oakland team, by just 10 points.
-They lost to an overrated Carolina team(who we beat and who were a challenge to us since we are not considered to be an elite power in the league).
-They barely beat Pittsburg by a FIELD GOAL. The experts were willing to write them off after the Carolina defeat but they "bounced back" to being one of the "league's elite". How? They barely won! The extra time put onto the game helped(in a very small way) as well.
There's no way Id consider the Pats to still be among the league's elite because they got a lucky break in a Steeler game because they have a great kicker. What would the experts be saying had Viniteri missed and the Pats wind up losing in OT? Dont get me wrong, as I said, Bellicheck is a great coach with a great QB whose team does overcome adversity. But the Carolina game revealed a lot of problems this team has and are going to be more evident as the season goes on. Right now, theyre losing to San Diego 24-17. If they beat SD, this would be another game they win on the ropes. A dominant team should be doing that, dominating. I have no seen one game in which the Patsies dominated. Dont be fooled, this is not the same team we've seen win Super Bowls. The sports press continues to make this team look like theyre still among the elite, but it is the Dolphins that are actually looking like the team to beat in the AFC east. Book it.
