http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...pper,0,3928005.story?coll=sfla-dolphins-front The Jaguars are in integral part of the Daunte Culpepper discussion, even if Jags Coach Jack Del Rio says there's nothing to talk about.

Following a directive from Del Rio to keep the lines of communication open with players, first-year offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter had discussions with Jacksonville's three quarterbacks about ramifications of the club signing Culpepper. The coach-player talks took place late last week as Culpepper's exit from the Miami Dolphins grew close to reality.

And backup David Garrard, whose status with the Jags may be directly linked to an acquisition of Culpepper, said his agent told him the club will talk to the former Pro Bowl and UCF quarterback.

Alan Schmadtke said:
"I didn't take it like, 'Oh, what am I going to do now?' " Garrard said following Wednesday's practice. "I just took it as, if you got a player out there on the streets as good as a Daunte Culpepper -- that has shown before that he can play -- if he's as anywhere near as healthy as he was at that time, you have to take a look at him. I'm not going to fault the organization for trying to do their job."

................ at least he gets it...........

If Culpepper losses his grievance, I would expect a trade to the Jags to happen pretty quickly. Culpepper wants to be able to choose his new team, but if he losses his grievance, it is either accept a trade or ride the bench deep into training camp. Culpepper is not the brightest, but I think he would realize that he needs to accept a trade.

"Any time you have a quarterback of Daunte's caliber . . . any time you can add depth to your roster of that caliber, as an organization that's smart to look into that," said Leftwich, who missed the final 10 games last season with a sore ankle and then ankle surgery. "Especially with me having one year left in my contract, that's not a bad business move from their standpoint. I have no problems with it."

Well looky that...........Del Rio gave him backing for the starting job and Byron doesn't get mad at the "business" standpoint of the potential aquisition.

Hopefully this drama can end soon.
It really doesn't bother me. Our three QBs are already set(Green, Lemon, Beck), and what happens with Culpepper doesn't afect the 2007 season at all. Worst case scenerio is that Culpepper is released. Best case is that he is traded for a 6th or 7th round pick. Either way, the front office just needs to let Culpepper rot on the bench as long as they can and see if they can get anything.

My QUESTION is: If we trade him, what kind of salary cap relief do we get, as opposed tor eleasing him?
And maybe this is why we are so reluctant to just cut the loser.

Whether we cut or trade him, it would be the same hit...I'm not sure what the exact figures are, but it's somewhere around $1.3 M savings against the cap...

You sure? I thought a release will result in a cap hit but a trade transfers the cap hit to the new team.

:tsk: sounds like a personal problem to me.

Doesn't sound too far fetched to think that david garrard or byron Lefwich are superior Qb's at this moment in thier careers to Trent Green. this is not the Trent Green of 2004 and both of these guys have been pretty decent and should get better. Garrard might be more of a push but Leftwich would proably be very good in our offense.
