MERGED: Jason Babin released

He only started the wide nine last year. The year before in a 4-3 he had 12.5 sacks - non wide nine. Also, the wide nine only proves the DE's need to have speed as they are further from the QB, so it proves he has that. It would definitely help the rotation

The TITANS ran the wide nine.

Babin across from Wake would likely mean Jared Odrick moves back inside and Soliai or Starks is gone.. Interesting. I'm not sure Miami will bite

if he clears waivers and he agrees to come in for cheap with no up front money as a situational pass rusher, why not?

He has 54 sacks over a 9 year career. 36 of those sacks came in the last 3 years while playing in the Wide 9. Also, when he can't get to the QB he is useless because he doesn't play well against the run.

Babin would be brought in to play 3rd downs. Wake could rush from the olb position with Vernon and Babin on the line. Odrick is good against the run but isn't scaring any QB in the league!!!

The TITANS ran the wide nine.

They did? The first I heard of it was with Philly. Nevertheless it takes speed to rush from a wide nine. Speed we can use. To say he would not be of any help to our DL rotation is being a bit myopic in ones thinking, IMHO

Myopic? I guess one's history doesn't matter then?

Jason Babin has only found success in a certain system. That isn't being short sighted in my thinking, that is seeing the history of a player and believing he hasn't changed.

If the Philly Defensive line couldn't use this player in a system that he thrives in, how does he translate to a new system with tools that history says, shows him to be mediocre at best?

Babin was a great pass rusher in Philly year 1, but was exposed greatly this year for one huge reason; Philly DTs and LBs suck. I'm kind of going back and forth on this. Yeah his biggest success was in the Wide 9, but bringing him in for 3rd down reasons in tempting. At the same time, he's gonna let RBs run right by him so if it's a draw or a screen we're dead.

He will be gone before he gets to us IMO.

Here is the top 12 waiver priority.

1. Chiefs; 2. Jaguars; 3. Eagles; 4. Raiders; 5. Browns; 6. Panthers, 7. Chargers; 8. Bills; 9. Titans; 10. Lions; 11. Cardinals; and 12. Jets.
