OT Joe Staley's stock is on the rise after posting a pair of sub 4.8 forties at CMU's Pro Day this morning...Staley also recorded a 4.30 short shuttle and a 7.17 cone...Staley also had a terrific workout displaying his athletic ability.

The top dog at Tackle J. Thomas at 311 pounds, did a 4.88 shuttle and a 7.95 cone.

This kid Staley is a freak of nature.

Staley's fast we know that. But he needs to bulk up if he wants to hand bullrushers and not just the quick DE's. That and his relative inexperience at LT I think should allow us to get him with our 2nd round pick.

Wow a 4.3 shuttle and sub 4.8 40s. That's a .5 difference, which is HUGE for a guy his size.

He's only 5 pounds lighter than Thomas.

More Staley info

Bulking up shouldn't be a problem for Staley now that he's out of college. He'll get to train and eat like a professional athlete instead of a college student on scholarship. I imagine he can go from 305 to 315 in a matter of weeks.

I would like to have him.

than I would like to draft either blalock or ramirez for left guard.

that should fix some offensive line issues.

thanks for the numbers... those are damn good for a dude that big

I agree he's supposedly a workout warrior so that should help. Though he does have inexperience at the LT spot which hopefully will scare off some teams enough to let him slide a little to our spot.

Problem is, his stock is rising so fast, we probably can't get him at 40. So unless we want to use our first round pick on him, I don't think we can get him. Quinn will likely be gone, so I would like us to get Stanton at 40. I think I have a great mock draft in my signature. All players are projected below our draft pick but not so far that we are reaching, and it fills a lot of our holes on offense.

Nice read MD like the idea of dropping a fw spots still getting a good player and an extra pick.

Probably true. But if we were to take a LT in the 1st round, I'd make it Staley over Brown. I may get flamed for this, but I think Staley would be a candidate at the 9 just based on his tremendous upside and the fact that he can fit a need. His stock may shoot up to that point if he keeps impressing such as gaining strength while keeping his agility.

As for that mock draft, I don't think we should be drafting that many OL prospects. Clowney would be nothing more than a kick returner. I'd rather have someone like Brandon Myles who could be a nice sleeper pick. And I'd rather have Doug Free than Marten.

This might be the way to go, especially if we can't get the top qb's and OT, drop a couple of picks and do this, if not a TE :D

I am with MD here also. I like Staley (more than Brown) because he has tremendous upside (almost freakish athleticism for a 300lb+ guy based on his combine) but I think we could still get him if we moved down a couple spots and received atleast 1 extra draft pick. We may need to do this since the Big Daddy trade with Denver may be falling through. Let's hope there is a taker for our #9 pick if that is the direction our FO wants to take.
