An Espn news segment about Joey Porter

About 20 mins ago i watched an ESPN news segment about the nfl free agency and talked about joey porter. They asked who was the favorite in the Joey Porter sweepstakes. THe one guy said it was the Miami Dolphins because the system is similar to the Steelers because of dom capers. He also went to state that before he got released some of the teams that tried to work a deal was the Miami Dolphins and Jets.

Merge if posted twice. Sorry i did..

Really? Despite the fact that he wants to play close to his home, (Bakersfield, California) and the Niners still have more than enough money to sign him, and he fits exactly what they need on ther defense?

Again, admittedly, im a cynic when it comes to FA. I don't believe anythign til the player is signed and in Miami. I'd love tog et Joey Porter, but at the moment, i don't see him passing up the deal he's gonna get from San Fransisco.

Joey Porter will not go to the 49ers, he is a 3-4 LB not a 4-3

I still want to know how long Michael Smith has been credible.

Again, I'd love to see it, but won't "get giddy" until it's reported that he's signed.

Unless SF is either willing to sit their leading sacker in Moore or last year's 1st round pick Manny Lawson, I don't see Porter signing there.

Capers pretty much runs the same type of 3-4 that the Steelers run so he may end up here.

Can you really picture Joey Porter in a Miami Dolphins uniform? Jason Taylor and Joey Porter coming off the edges for the next three seasons? Well, it looks like it may be a reality. With Miami clearing up even more cap room, many in league circles believe Joey Porter will end up in miami. A true pass rushing outside linebacker he'd fit perfectly in our scheme.

Other teams in the running were Cleveland and Cincinnati. Cleveland has already made large moves and doesn't have the cap room to sign him as of now. Cincinnati is his other choice and there he'd be able to beat up on the steelers twice a year. However, he left on pretty good terms and had a great run there. Cincinnati also doesn't run the 3-4 which is the system Porter used in Pittsburgh and where he fits best. I don't think he'd llike being a traditional linebacker who has to cover. He likes rushing the quarterback and making big plays and thats what i can see him doing in miami.

Joey Porter is 29 years old (turns 30 this month) and still has a lot left in the tank. The combination of Porter, Thomas, and Taylor in our front 7 would be DEADLY. Teams would fear our defense. NO lie. We would be unstoppable. Zach and Jason might actually play an extra year or two to keep the combination. They all still can perform at pro bowl levels. So if you get Joey Porter AND THEN draft alan branch, sidney rice, tony ugoh, and another olineman what would you think? Our team would be moving in the right direction. I love the face we are stock piling picks. We are going to have a lot of new faces on this team and Joey Porter is a feasible, realistic move that according to Michael Smith of espn is going to happen.

Welcome to MIAMI

Brandon Moores an ILB who had to play outside due to lack of depth. He would play ILB if they got porter. Why do you think the niners made such a push for Adelius Thomas?

Plus, Moore only had 6.5 sacks, thats not a number that really deserves to be respected. As a 3-4 outside linebacker, you better get at least 8 in order to be respected.

the 49ers drafted a player last year known as MANNY LAWSON. every heard of him? outside linebacker who strickly rushes the quarterback a la joey porter

people need to remember that the reason the 9ers went after Thomas is his vesitility. He can line up as a 3-4 OLB, but when Baltimore playedthe 34 this year, he lined up at ILB. They wanted Thomas to replace either Ubrich or Smith not play outside.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

It's not about defensive scheme or who coaches. It comes down to the larger signing bonus and money. I would guess that 10% of players will let other factors dictate where they sign.

Porter dont seem like a Cam -type player to me.Porters got a mouth on him.IMO some teams might not want to deal with that.Im not knockin his talent Im just saying it can lead to penalities and other issues. He reminds me of Warren Sapp a great talent but always had to have his gums flappin.IMO Cameron and Mueller will go for a cheaper option or draft someone. It seems like to me they are more into finding their own big names not one's that already exsist.
