A hearing for Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter on misdemeanor battery charges has been continued until May 30, a member of the Las Vegas District Attorney's office said this morning.

Kathy Karstedt, assistant to District Attorney David Roger, said Porter's attorney, Karen Winckler, appeared this morning on behalf of her client and was granted a continuation.

If convicted, Porter faces a maximum sentence of six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine for allegedly punching Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Levi Jones in the face March 18 at a Las Vegas casino.

I wish this didn't happen. It would be nice to know sooner rather then later what kind of punishment he gets from the court and the NFL. It would be nice to know if he will be suspended and for how long.

I am sure he has a good enough lawyer to get minimum from the court system.
True, but I am more worried about what Goodell might do. He seems like he really wants to clean things up in the NFL and something like this may have been just a slap on the wrist in the past. Who knows what might happen now that Goodell is in charge.

Earlier that month, Porter, 30, signed a $32 million free-agent deal with the Dolphins after eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Porter, a three-time Pro Bowler, and Jones became heated rivals during meetings of the division foes the past five seasons.

The bad blood spilled over at the Palms hotel-casino. Jones, 6-feet-5 and 307 pounds, needed on-site medical attention to treat a small laceration on his forehead caused by the alleged attack, which also included and a group of men believed to be with Porter (6-3, 250).

A videotape of the incident will not be released until the case is resolved.

he is not doing any jail time ill bet on that one he will pay the fine and im not sure if the nfl can susp. him since it happened in the offseason..

Of course the NFL can suspend him for something that happens in the off-season. I don't think they will in this case, but it's certainly a possibility.

im sure if he gets convicted, he will just pay the fine and that will be the end...i think he has already apologized to Levi or he is going to

Well that sounds sincere.

"He apologized or he's gonna"

Sure he is, when he's in front of the judge he'll be really really sorry.
