what are some thoughts on the new QB. i'm a little unsure about him, I think I would have rather tried to keep lemon and see what he could do with some 1st string work over the offseason.

I didn't get to see hi in action at all while in Oakland, but I remember him showing some ability while in Arizona. I don't remember being wowed, but I remember thinking he could develop into a nice QB. He serves as half decent insurance against Beck craping out I guess...not much more at this point.

On the other hand, I felt the same way (as I'm sure many did) about D, Anderson in Cleveland, and he did pretty well for himself last season. We will see!

yeah, the free agency qb pool was a little weak this year. maybe if they get some talent around him, who knows what will happen, it can't get any worse

Cmon...he can't be much worse than Lemon ;0)
Honestly, we should of went 0-16 with him...if it wouldn't be for Greg ;0)

Lemon physically can't make all the throws. Too many times, the WRs were in place and the ball didn't get there. His decision making is a little suspect as well. All he did for me was prove that he's at best a backup.

McCown hasn't shown significantly better. But, he can make the throws and seems to have a better long ball than touch and accuracy on shorter throws. His decision making seems to be a level above Lemon's but not at an elite level.

One thing that can be said for both, they've been in situations where they haven't had much help. The OL in Oakland wasn't much better than ours and the offensive system was screwy in Arizona when he was there...

McCown has to be considered an upgrade, but not necessarily a long term answer except that of a backup who should be able to come in and pull us thru if needed...

What we really need is for Beck to improve. The key for that, IMO, is the OL...that has to be fixed. I like the move of Smiley, but it certainly isn't enough.. as it stands tonight, we have 3 starters and very little backup...

Didn't he and Cpep take turns being bad for the Raiders? Uh, not too impressive. Maybe he comes to Miami and tears it up like no one else has done since Marino...Could happen...No?

I'm hoping Beck is the future. McCown=backup QB

I think McCown is a good option. I mean I guess there is a chance he could open the season as a starter but ideally, he will be a solid backup if Beck can't perform.

I like all of the moves so far. We have plugged holes with quality players. NO it's time to steal Moss from the Patriots. Nothing would be better than watching him catch 3 touchdowns from Beck in the Pats stadium.

just to set the record straight josh mccown wasn't benched in favor of culpepper, i think he had 2 seperate injuries to a finger and toe but as soon as he got healthy daunte went back to the bench.

Not too thrilled, but he didn't have much to work with last year. I think he wanted out of Oakland. I bet he is all smiles now that he is here. Now he has something to prove. He knows Beck was drafted as our guy, nobody wants to be a backup. So I will keep an open mind and hope for the best. At least we have a possession receiver now (Wilford) that he can get the ball to. If Ronnie Brown heals well I may not wear a bag on my head next year.

I have little doubt McCown will start week one. Parcells likes vet QBs and they will continue to develope Beck but im sure there will be an offseason competition.

I like the signing. He is young enough that if he does halfway decent he could be a solution at qb for a few years and if not he should be a slight upgrade over Lemon as a #2. I would rather sign somebody still in their 20s vs resigning Trent at 37 or 38 yrs old who would be at most a 1 year stop gap. McCown should also help push Beck with competition in camp for the starting spot.

He was the best option in a very very weak FA QB class.

Now we'll have a real QB competition in training camp.

If Beck is our QB of the future, then he should be good enough to beat McCown out for the job this year.

If McCown wins the starting job this year, we'll be drafting another QB in 2009.

I am happy with the Pick up now we have someone to challenge beck for the Starting job
