Merged: JT situation getting better?

JT situation getting better?

Hey everybody. I know by now you guys are all tired of hearing about Jason Taylor and what's going to happen. If you have been following it closely, you know that JT said he would play for the dolphins next year if he doesn't get traded. I found this on www.benmaller.com today and it's interesting to see that this situation could be getting better. Here's what I read:

Chalk up one more small reason why defensive end Jason Taylor's potential return to the Dolphins this season shouldn't be considered unrealistic: His relationships with key members of the team apparently are not broken beyond repair. After revealing Sunday for the first time that he is indeed willing to play in Miami (rather than retire) if a trade isn't worked out, Taylor was joined later in the evening at his charity gala at Hard Rock Live by coach Tony Sparano and general manager Jeff Ireland. ''It was great,'' Taylor said Monday after his golf event concluded. ``It was great to see Tony and Jeff there. ``I had a chance to speak with them both, and I told them I appreciate them coming. It was great.'' -- Miami Herald

Since Parcells said he would not trade JT and JT said he would play for the Dolphins next year if he doesn't get traded, this could be a step in the right direction. I think the actions on each side is indicating a JT return this season. It was great to hear that Sparano and Ireland showed up to his charity event because they definitely did not have to. What does everyone think??

In response to the title of the thread, In my opinion, it's not that the JT situation is getting better, it's just that the JT sitaution isn't as bad as the media has portrayed it to be.

I don't think things were ever as bad as they were made out to be. There is no real football news so the media runs this and that trying to build something big out of something that, IMO, was a not a big issue to either side. Yeah, there are still "things that need cleared up" but overall, when the dust settles and the beginning of the season comes closer I think we will see JT in a PHINS uniform and everytime he sacks the QB or returns an INT for a TD we all will cheer for Jason Taylor.

Yep and Yep.

I think it's possible that among the benefits of Tony Sparano's angry tell-all statement to the press...it really forced Jason to blink, in this staring contest they had going. Apparently within days he reached out to Tony Sparano and had a secret meeting with him that he didn't tell any of his friends or even his family about. Now, all the sudden, instead of telling the press he wants a trade, Jason is skirting around the issue and making it seem like he'll play for Miami in 2008. And, in turn, Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland are showing up at Jason Taylor charity events.

So, yeah. I think things could be just a little bit on the mend.

It just goes to show you that those who criticized Sparano for his statement about JT were extremely premature. Within days all kinds of teams are inquiring about the guy in trade, and offering the same amount as the offers we got before the draft, so obviously Sparano didn't destroy any trade leverage. And, now it seems he didn't really alienate JT so much as force him to stop playing games with them and force him to the table more in terms of talking.

Mods this thread was an accident. Could you please delete it?

Looks like worthwhile reading to me. I scour Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel online and didn't see mention that Sparano and Ireland were at his event. Don't be a curmudgeon.

Whooee....

You know i must admit....while I hated JT being on the dancing show...I let all the media and so-called experts work me up with all the JT demanded a trade. JT doesnt want to be here. I learned a very important lesson....when a situation like this arises dont pay any attention and go with the past displays of professioanlism or lack thereoff......media is there to sell papers and magazines. I WAS WRONG and I am Sorry JT!

Jason Taylor did have his agent strongly suggest a trade back in January. I'm sorry but just going to a charity event doesn't erase history. Could things be on the mend? Sure. We don't know what got said between JT and Sparano at that meeting they had after Sparano's angry statement. But to claim that the media just made everything up is pretty absurd. I know some of these guys, talk with them with a fair frequency. Boomer knows one of them too and speaks with him all the time. They're not *all* Armando Salguero. Some of them have stronger ethical backbones than you or I put together.
