Kirwan did a list of people who changed the game of football...

Here's what he had to say bout marino:

9. Dan Marino: Coverages didn't faze him. He had the quick release, confidence and aggressiveness to stick the ball in tight spots. His quick release changed how teams had to play defense against him and now others who get the ball out of their hand as soon as possible. He also proved pocket maneuverability was more important than foot speed.

mentions jason allen in the article under Marshall Faulks segment

The last draft was a great indication that teams are always looking for matchup nightmares like Reggie Bush and -- more important -- the hybrid defensive backs like Michael Huff, Donte Whitner and Jason Allen, who can cover like corners and play like safeties.

only qb mentioned that changed the game. It's also remarkable to see the slew of defensive players drafted over the next few years after marino in the AFC East to try and stop him...too bad his boys grew up with a silver spoon,

There's a lot of deserving people on that list, but I would think that Dan Marino ought to be ranked higher than Brian Urlacher at the moment. I was sort of surprised not to see Randall Cunningham on there somewhere.

wasn't Cunningham one of the first really good double threat (running and passing) quarterbacks that ushered in a different style of QB play that was perfected by Steve Young (both paving the way for Culpepper and McNair) and is supposedly being brought to a whole new level by Michael Vick?? The article says Vick could make it for exactly the same reasons, but doesn't mention Randall at all.

You are showing your age young man. Don't have to go back too far to see Fran Tarkenton.

Tarkington did not change the game. He was an oddity.

Cunnigham was really the start of the athletic QB movement. I lived then, so, I feel I have a dog in the fight. As great as Tark was.......No way.....No WAY he does the stuff Cunnigham did.

The greatest game-changers!?!....

Not sure if this has been posted or not, but here it is.

That's right, They rated Danny boy as the 9th biggest game changer in NFL history. Now, I'm not trying to be a homer, but I think he deserved a higher rank than this. Especially when you look at some of the names ahead of him. Brian Urlacher and Tony Gonzalez in paticular.

Anyway, there's the link if you want to read the whole article. And if this is old stuff, I apologize in advance.

I hadn't seen it posted yet. Good read. Thanks.
