Jason La Canfora said on NFL Network a few hours ago that Jon Gruden is Stephen Ross' first choice and it will essentially take a miracle for Sparano not to be fired later this year. He said the Dolphins know that the fans are disinterested and upset and will try to wake them up with an exciting hire.

Chuckie had an interesting look on his face during MNF - like the cat who swallowed the canary - sorry Tony but you didn't have the mojo of a young BP

La Canfora: Gruden likely to be at the top of Ross' list

Not my first choice, and I do have concerns, which I have mentioned before. But it wouldn't be the worst choice in the world and this report does seem to make some sense. Ross reportedly offered Gruden a deal that would have paid him $7 million a year that he turned down in January. Whether it was a formal offer or just a brief conversation it appears there was definitely interest.

One thing to remember with Gruden is that the Buccaneers gave him a three year contract extension in 2008 that paid him roughly $6 million a year. Since they fired him, they still needed to pay his salary so he is still being paid $6 million this year, AND a salary from ESPN. So that could be the reason why he turned Ross down in January because it was a lot more work for the same if not, less pay. His Buccaneers contract ends after this season, so this appears to be the perfect time for Gruden to jump back into coaching.

I still prefer Cowher though, but Gruden would definitely be #2 of the big three.

You want to excite me?

Draft Andrew Luck. A head coach can't throw the football on the field.

If we can get a GM in here with him and both of them get on the same page then I'm all for it, turning around a franchise is not just about the coach it's about the organization as a whole, from the owner, to the GM, to the scouting department, down to the coach, everybody has to work together and pick a direction they want the franchise to go!

I still believe Gruden is mostly overrated, however, it wouldnt be the worst choice in the world. He would likely do pretty well with Andrew Luck, but he would gut the rest of the team in favor of old veterans.

I guess the people who want to trade everyone for picks will get their wish.

"MelbournePhin" I agree 100%, we need to get rid of the weasel Ireland and bring in a new GM too, let him and Gruden work together
