MERGED: La Canfora: Gruden is Ross' main target

Chucky may not want the job after the MNF game with the Jets. When he sees how bad this team is he may run away fast!

One thing is for sure with his hire. If we have the top pick we won't have to sweat wondering if were picking a QB or a DT......Its obvious with Chucky as our coach. I'm curious does anyone know what went wrong in tampa? With the raiders?

Im not sure it would be so obvious. He has never drafted a QB in the 1st round. He might think he is such a QB guru that he can just turn any guy into an all-pro and go for another position in the first round instead.

I am going to repeat myself again. Why would you want this clown at all? I think our owner is definitely showing a reason of why he should't be the owner of this franchise.

That may be so....But i would seriously seriously doubt that one of the top prospects is available and he decides to pick another position.

That's what I'd be afraid of. His ego has no limits. Qb was his biggest problem in Tampa.

Can you give us a little more than that? Some of us, like myself don't know the bad related to him...Personally i heard something about the team turning on him and fans puttin his truck on bricks.

Boy... I really didn't see anything new or newsworthy from that clip. Ross hasn't recently talked to Gruden or anything. LaCanfora could've mentioned anyone and did... he threw out the entire kitchen sink on that.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

He has no history of developing a young QB, but, he did turn talented guys like Rich Gannon into a superstar and Brad Johnson into a Super Bowl champion. The years after that were filled with Griese, Simms and Gradkowski. Not necessarily top talent. I think a young talented QB like Luck would do very well under his system.

To be fair to Gruden, he was missing ALOT of draft picks and was stuck in a hellish salary cap position. Despite that, he made his team competative year in and year out. He was stuck with working with veterans for the most part.

That being said, i do not believe Gruden would disapprove of working with young quarterbacks. He was just in a stuck situation. Remember, he did draft Chris Simms. And a chance to work with Andrew Luck would probably cause him to foam at the mouth, especially as they both are used to the West Coast system.

Personally, id rather go with an assistant coach. I think our owner is really overthinking this and just needs to bring in a guy that gives him the best chance to win. We start winning games, fans are happy. But of all the veteran coaches around, id perfer Gruden over the others(including Cowher). Gruden has the best chance to fix the quarterback position and the man still is fired up. Honestly, i dont think the guy ever gets un-fired up. When my buddy worked for the Bucs during training camp, he said Gruden was fired up about finding a t-shirt to wear before breaking down film in the middle of the night.
While a Cowher might be content after his Superbowl win, Gruden still has a chip on his shoulder. The guy has been fired twice now.

Gruden inherited a very good team in Tampa and degenerated every year. Until he ultimately lost the team. Cowher is who we should go after. I am so sick of all the wrong moves.

Yeah I wouldn't say Gruden doesn't want to work with young QBs as much as he really wasn't in many positions to. While at Oakland he had Rich Gannon, who was older, but an All-Pro under Gruden. In Tampa he had Brad Johnson, again older but a solid QB at the time. He drafted Chris Simms in the 3rd after winning the Super Bowl with the intent of developing him behind Johnson. Simms got hurt, Griese had a good year the one year, and Garcia looked solid with Tampa.

The Bucs was a sticky situation as they desperately needed to rebuild, so they cleaned house. I am under the impression though if he comes in, he'll want the money to buy out his brother to be OC.

For a QB to flourish under Gruden, the guy has to be very smart. His terminology is vexing, and adjustments make you think twice: once to figure which adjustment to make, and second to figure out the terminology that goes with it. On the other hand, you don't need a particularly strong arm, but short distance accuracy is a must, as well as good footwork.

He was a fiery guy, but I wonder how hungry he is after winning his ring. Perhaps a coach just doesn't care as much after it...

Also funny how some people ask for a top notch DC. Wasn't Nolan that just a couple of months ago?

I have mentioned this many times but he is one of those guys who is given credit for winning the super bowl with Tony Dungy's team. The team he built and was then was fired pretty coldly. Good thing that Tony went to another team and fixed the defense to help the Colts win the super bowl. If the guy couldn't build a super bowl contender then why are you giving this guy any money at all. The Buccaneers kept declining during his long overdue stay up until he was fired and replaced with Morris.

Let me add that he led a fine GM as Rich McCay to leave the organization and that was the start of the Bucs Downfall in the next coming seasons. Rich is with the Falcons now and has done such a great job by rebuilding the franchise and making sure guys like Matt Ryan were drafted to help build the franchise properly. If I were to give any kind of money for a guy it would be for a guy like Rich McCay. His team under his direction has produced many countless of pro bowlers in between his Tenure at Tampa and Atlanta. The Falcons had like 11-12 pro bowlers last season so go figure. Why would I want a guy like that in this franchise. Bring me a guy like Rich McCay and let him be responsible for hiring a damn head coach.
