MERGED: La Canfora: Gruden is Ross' main target

For a QB to flourish under Gruden, the guy has to be very smart. His terminology is vexing, and adjustments make you think twice: once to figure which adjustment to make, and second to figure out the terminology that goes with it. On the other hand, you don't need a particularly strong arm, but short distance accuracy is a must, as well as good footwork.

He was a fiery guy, but I wonder how hungry he is after winning his ring. Perhaps a coach just doesn't care as much after it...

Also funny how some people ask for a top notch DC. Wasn't Nolan that just a couple of months ago?

Does that mean someone like LUCK would be a perfect QB for what he wants?

We don't have the players to run a 3/4 we should switch back IMO we are a sorry looking 3/4
we need to run the 1-1-9.......the way our DB's are going we need 9 of them in the game

Ozzy rules!!

Two thoughts on Gruden :
Didn't he go through tons of QB's at Tampa and never developed a good one.
I did like his QB clinic show.

He never got a top QB prospect to work with. The highest pick their gm made at QB was Chris Simms, who is a drug addict. You can't expect the man to develop a nfl qb from nothing.

the only knock on Gruden besides him being a hardass,is he cant find a QB....of course should we take Luck first overall, Gruden's pretty much a non-factor in that department,so Im good with it.....

Luck and Barkley both would be good. Jones wouldn't fit in Gruden's offense. Keep in mind, Andy Dalton and Christian Ponder were perfect fits for his offense (his brother was/is in love with Dalton)

Gruden won in Oakland...that's better than anything any coach going right now can say.

I have mentioned this many times but he is one of those guys who is given credit for winning the super bowl with Tony Dungy's team. The team he built and was then was fired pretty coldly. Good thing that Tony went to another team and fixed the defense to help the Colts win the super bowl. If the guy couldn't build a super bowl contender then why are you giving this guy any money at all. The Buccaneers kept declining during his long overdue stay up until he was fired and replaced with Morris.

Let me add that he led a fine GM as Rich McCay to leave the organization and that was the start of the Bucs Downfall in the next coming seasons. Rich is with the Falcons now and has done such a great job by rebuilding the franchise and making sure guys like Matt Ryan were drafted to help build the franchise properly. If I were to give any kind of money for a guy it would be for a guy like Rich McCay. His team under his direction has produced many countless of pro bowlers in between his Tenure at Tampa and Atlanta. The Falcons had like 11-12 pro bowlers last season so go figure. Why would I want a guy like that in this franchise. Bring me a guy like Rich McCay and let him be responsible for hiring a damn head coach.

So he doesnt get credit for winning the Super Bowl with Tampa because he didnt build the team from scratch but Dungy gets credit for winning the Super Bowl with the Colts? Dungy brought in Manning right? So who gets credit for that Raiders Super Bowl team? Gruden has gone deep into the playoffs with 2 different teams.....the Falcons had 11-12 Pro Bowlers last year? You'd think a team with half their starters being Pro Bowlers would be a little better than the Falcons are this year eh?

Gruden no thank you...I like him at ESPN.

This is just another try to sell tickets by hiring a "somebody".Dang i wish i ad a billion dollars to buy this damn team.

Im not sure it would be so obvious. He has never drafted a QB in the 1st round. He might think he is such a QB guru that he can just turn any guy into an all-pro and go for another position in the first round instead.

He didn't do the drafting in Tampa. He's since come out and said that he argued strongly for a first round QB while he was there, but was overruled by the gm, who made the final decisions.

McKay and he didn't get along, because neither could agree on the types of players to acquire. Then McKay was offered a promotion, which he logically took. You make it sound like he ran him out of town, which is famously inaccurate.

As for McKay with the Falcons, they made a big turn around when Dimitroff came on board, and started making their personnel decisions. I credit McKay with little of that.

Thank God.

Gruden is my first choice.

Jon Gruden + Andrew Luck = Glory days in Miami once again !
