Merged: Let the fun begin.......RICKY SPEAKS

all you people out there critizing him need to shut up, he made a mistake and he's back, if he has a awesome year the same people talking all this trash about him will be on the bandwagon, lets face it dave w. ran him out the nfl,(getting busted with weed just gave him the out he wanted) ricky ran the ball almost 1000 times in 2 years that crazy, after that bills game, when he got the ball over 40 times he didn't run the same for the rest of the year, they way he left was sort of mess up he did stick it to the team, but i think he wanted davey boy to get fired personally but i just treat it as him being hurt last year , even if we had ricky we would of won some more games but the outcome would of been the same, no qb no playoffs, feeley might be better this year but i rather have ricky and ronnie in the backfield, plus in football you never put your eggs in one basket like the dolphins did with ricky

I can't watch or listen to it right now. I am at work and for some reason I can't get the thing to work. But some of you guys need to lay off. It's ridiculous to expect him to be up there in front of all those people with total composure under the circumstances. Of course some of his answers are going to come off as bizarre or not well thought out or even sound dumb. I know I don't envy the position he is sitting in right now. It takes some balls to get up there and do what he is doing. Granted what he did last year is wrong, but he is trying to make it right and thinking of the perfect answer under the scrutiny he is facing at the moment, I'm sure he is doing the best he can. I wouldn't want to be sitting there and I'll bet you guys wouldn't either.

Well said.

Ricky made the first step in trying to mend the mistakes he did last year.

When you start a statement with this, no one will listen to you.

Yeah, I agree with some of what he goes on to say, but he chose the WRONG way to get a positive response.

My critical opinion of Ricky Williams is just as valid as your supportive opinion of him. I think he's unreliable. I think he will quit or get suspended again before the year is out. I think the distraction we have already begun to see will be damaging enough to offset any positive thing he may bring to the Phins. I think the Phins would have been better off without him, but now that he's back hopefully he will eventually build enough value so that we can trade him for picks...even if its a 4th or worse. I think that if Ricky hated getting so many carries he wouldnt have asked to be left in on 3rd downs. I think if all he wanted was to get rid of Wanny then he would have accepted the deal his agent worked out with the NFL to return and serve his suspension the last 4 games of last season, which was AFTER Wanny quit.

These are my opinions, which obvioulsy differ greatly from yours. I think you are wrong.
I will not, however, tell you to "shut up"

Ricky is a liability to the organization at this point, not a benefit. His return could turn Brown's career into a debacle. He can still bail at any moment, and after that press conference, I feel even more certain that he hasn't changed.

Did he apologize? Sort of. He said he was sorry, then went on to state that he understands that "some people" might have seen what he did as "selfish". That's as half-hearted an apology as I have ever heard. He then follows that up by answering the question "Why did you come back?" with an "I don't know". He says it twice, and only after a reporter laughs at him (Listen, it is plainly there), does he say that it's too complicated to answer. When asked if he still loves football, he says "Yes", but then follows it up by saying he didn't like NFL rules and the NFL lifestyle and type of playing.

Oh yeah, Ricky is sorry and fully reformed

Good post.. Especially considering he has a documented social anxiety disorder.. Public speaking is a rather difficult endeaver to partake.. Polls show that more people are afraid of speaking publicly than DYING. Considering the situation, this must have been a very nerve-racking experience.
I would think this was by far the most difficult media session he's ever had to participate in. Can you imagine having to stand up in front of the glare of the whole world and say "I'm sorry". ? Man, I hate just telling my wife or my supervisor that I'm sorry!

Yeah. He shouldn't have to apologize or tell the media anything :shakeno:

I was merely stating IMO it must have been extremely hard to apologize to the world like that. I don't believe I even inferred that it was something that should not be done. Furthermore, I find your stance on this whole issue quite ironic in view of the words you've chosen as your sig. Your posts indicate that you have no forgiveness for Ricky, now or in the future. Yet, your sig is actually a part of Gabriel's response to Daniel's prayer for forgiveness and mercy for him and his people.

Perhaps it was tough for Ricky to apologize...am I supposed to be in awe of the fact that he managed to do so? Should I feel sorry for him? Is there a reason I should lament that a pro-athlete that made a selfish decision now has to face the consequences of that decision?

As to the forgiveness aspect, I'm not sure what you are driving at. I have no malice in my heart for Ricky, I just don't think it is a smart move for the Dolphins. To the best of my knowledge, there is a difference between forgiveness and acceptance. I can forgive Ricky, but since when does that mean I should be thrilled or think it is a good idea to put him back in the same position he was once in? Common sense dictates that there are some things that are not expedient to do with a forgiven person until they have proven themselves trustworthy again. I heard nothing in Ricky's press conference today that proved to me that he is worthy of such respect. He will have to earn it on the field through consistancy. I understand the team wanting to get value for him, I just don't like the situation and the myriad of potential pitfalls that go along with it.

That definately was the most half-arsed apology I've seen in a while brother. He still thinks we're the one's who are crazy.

Well aparently Nick Saban see it differently.
