Perhaps it was tough for Ricky to apologize...am I supposed to be in awe of the fact that he managed to do so? Should I feel sorry for him? Is there a reason I should lament that a pro-athlete that made a selfish decision now has to face the consequences of that decision?

As to the forgiveness aspect, I'm not sure what you are driving at. I have no malice in my heart for Ricky, I just don't think it is a smart move for the Dolphins. To the best of my knowledge, there is a difference between forgiveness and acceptance. I can forgive Ricky, but since when does that mean I should be thrilled or think it is a good idea to put him back in the same position he was once in? Common sense dictates that there are some things that are not expedient to do with a forgiven person until they have proven themselves trustworthy again. I heard nothing in Ricky's press conference today that proved to me that he is worthy of such respect. He will have to earn it on the field through consistancy. I understand the team wanting to get value for him, I just don't like the situation and the myriad of potential pitfalls that go along with it.
Volk, I appreciate you responding the way you did. I wasn't trying to attack. Well, if I'm being honest I guess I was a little with regards to the remarks about your sig. I should have phrased it a little differently. You state that you forgive the guy so I believe that. I have to admit that I do understand forgiving while being unable to completely accept. As for the press conference; was there anything Ricky could have said to satisfy you?
As for the 1st part of your post. I'm the last person to say what someone else should feel. However, I viewed Ricky's statements as a satisfactory 1st step. Very few are comfortable with saying I'm sorry. So when someone steps up and apologizes, whether to me personally, fans, whomever; I'm able to simply acknowledge what it takes to do so. No I do not believe we should pity him, nor do I agree with the people who are trying to make excuses for him. He's a grown man who made some really poor decisions and they affected alot of people. Yet, he is trying to atone for them now.
Anyway, I wasn't trying to belabor a point; just reply to your reply.
