BILLS, JAGS COMPLETE STROUD TRADE by Michael David Smith
Jay Glazer of Fox is reporting that the Buffalo Bills have completed a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars for defensive tackle Marcus Stroud.
The price the Bills paid to the Jaguars was a pair of draft picks, third- and fifth-rounders. That makes it official that the going rate for defensive tackles in the NFL is third- and fifth-round picks. Earlier this week, the Panthers sent Kris Jenkins to the Jets for third- and fifth-round picks, and the Lions agreed to trade Shaun Rogers to the Bengals for third- and fifth-round picks, although that trade was voided and Rogers was ultimately sent to the Browns for a third-round pick and Leigh Bodden.
The Bills paved the way for acquiring Stroud by cutting defensive tackle Larry Tripplett. An Associated Press story saying Stroud "cut short his visit with the Bills in Buffalo on Friday after the team's interest cooled upon learning Stroud was seeking a significant raise" was incorrect.
In fact, a league source tells PFT that although Stroud re-worked his contract in a way that gives him more of the money he's due on his current deal upfront, no "significant raise" was part of the deal with the Bills. Stroud still has three years left on his deal and is still scheduled to make $16.5 million in those three years.

Makes sense the Jags draft either Pat Sims or Kentwan Balmer with their first rounder.

wtf

:(

is the AFC East and the Jags the only teams aquiring players so far?

49ers are on the same pace we are I believe. At any rate it seems that the other teams in the AFC East are sick and tired of the Pats running away with the division. Hopefully the AFC East is back and will bring some exciting football.

I don't understand though. What do the Jags gain out of this? They had the best DT combo in the league, Vikings are up there too, and are already a playoff team. I didn't see anything about Stroud demanding money or saying he was unhappy there.

Vikings have the best by far. Maybe they think he is on the decline?

Bills just signed Spencer Johnson too. The 3rd guy in Minnesota who subs for Pat Williams and Kevin Williams. 3 sacks isn't too bad for a rotational guy. AFC East is getting crazy.

This is a great trade for the Jags. now its only time before the Jags will end up with Jason Taylor on there team. Cant Wait GO JAGS AND DOLPHINS !!

Like every DT that was moved, there are negatives coming from the team he played for.

Shaun Rogers is lazy and overweight, Kris Jenkins is lazy and overweight, Stroud has an ankle problem.

The Bills doctors checked out Stroud, he is 100%. He suffered a high ankle sprain on the ankle he had surgery on, which scared Jacksonville.

There is no question in my mind that if healthy, Stroud is the best DT moved this offseason.

Spencer Johnson played a lot with the Vikings. He cam in for Pat Williams on 3rd down or any passing situation. This is an under the radar guy.

Stroud to the bills!

I brought this up earlier in the week about possibly going after Marcus Stroud for what at the time was considered being offered for a 2nd rd pick. I thought even at the 2nd rd pick, was great value and give us a legit DT that plays at a high level. So now the Bills get him for their 3rd and 5th rd draft picks. I know we got Starks and Ferguson, but lets face it, neither of them are Stroud and I know we didn't give up much for Ferguson, but I think Stroud would have been a nice fit here in Miami and I wish we would have been the ones giving up a 3rd and 5th rd picks for the guy. What do you guys think?

i'm not sure if he's a 3-4 oriented NT, he has played in a 4-3 his entire NFL career
