MERGED: Maser Fired/DeGuglielmo Hired As Replacement

That is great news. We have a talented/young bunch of linemen that underperformed at times last year at run blocking in particular. We need to be able to run the ball down the throats of other team with Brown/Williams without resorting to the likes of the "wildcat". Lets wait and see who replaces Maser.

I think that is interesting just because he was Jordan Gross's o -line coach when he was with Carolina, that was referenced in an article in the Palm Beach Post earlier today. I don't know if that gives any indication in either direction that the Fins may be interested in Gross, I just find it interesting.

That's pretty suprising considering the amount of time Sparano spent with that unit.

While I can't comment on him qualitatively, especially considering the patchwork required as a result of the Thomas and Smiley injuries, nevertheless I am sooooo impressed by his firing. What this signals to me is that a team which not only exceeded, but smashed preseason expectations is not resting on its laurels. The trifecta is already at work trying to improve on a great year and has seized the opportunity to bring on board a more effective OLC before they get snatched up in the new HC hiring wave.

If they do target anyone, it will not be a name that we will have ever heard of. Often, coaches will only leave their teams for a higher position, so the guy will not be very famous. It is hard enough knowing the names of the prominent coordinators in the league let alone their assistants. And o-line coaches are assistants too, so if the guy we hire is getting promoted from another position, there is no friggin' way we will know this guy. TBH, I didn't even know the guy that got fired's name.

This news, coupled with the news that the DOlphins have expressed interest in talking with free agent Vernon Carey, could mean that we're leaning to re-signing him. Maybe the regime thinks Carey and the likes underperformed because of the O-line coach.

I was just looking over some tapes last night and I was thinking to myself that this Coach did not do a very good job.

our backup guards and Satele are talented?

thats news to me

I didn't see it coming either....who knows what it really means but we did lose our 2 starting guards and many people on this board feel that Satele's not the answer at center, not to mention that Carey didn't have a very good season so you have to wonder if a different o-line coach would have doen better...having said that is good to see that the FO will not stop working at trying to make our team better.

Ozzy rules!!
