Merged: Matt Flynn to Seattle

You may want to refresh the MBoard, and read Flynn's fathers quote about what the Dolphin thought of Flynn.

This has nothing to do with aqua and orange glasses. This has to do with common sense. You see this as a game to play, the men you constantly insult have families to feed and a living to make and they do their homework on these players and situations. Now if you want to constantly insult these men, more power to you, but do yourself a favor and use the facts not your opinion as facts to make an argument.

As I've said all along, my opinion is just as valid as yours. The thing is, I know my opinion is opinion, not sure you think your opinion is just an opinion.

They low balled him, because they didn't see him as a franchise QB. They obviously thought he was deserving of competing with Moore, which is why, again, they low balled him. I don't see any other viable reason, based on what has been reported in the papers, and now the quote from Flynn's father.
 What in the hell are you talking about?

And I very clearly stated, in the very post you quoted, that my opinion was just that. I just take the blinders off when forming mine.

So they called him in, interviewed him, and gave him a "lowball" offer knowing full well he was going to get starter money somewhere else. Doesn't sound like a waste of time at all. "Hey, we know you're going to get starter money somewhere, but we want to offer you backup money to play for a 6-10 team and compete with another backup for the starting roll. How does that sound Bubba? Your potential head coach didn't think that highly of you, by the way, so it will definitely be a true competition. Oh, and is your mom by any chance a prostitute? Happy St. Patrick's Day!" Oh, that Ireland...

It is silly. It's silly that you think that this franchise would bring Flynn in to compete knowing that Flynn was going to a team as a starter and not to compete. They never would of invited Flynn down here if they thought he was a guy to compete with Matt Moore. It's simple logic. Why bring a guy in for a look if you know he would never accept your stipulations. It makes no sense. But you keep hanging on a few PR words that his dad made if it keeps helping you convince yourself of irrational things

We have no way of knowing what was said privately but Pete Carroll said publicly that Flynn is coming in to compete with Tarvaris Jackson, not to be handed the starter spot.

Obviously, everyone knows that Flynn's going to win that competition because Tarvaris Jackson blows, but I think everyone knows Flynn was going to win that competition here with Moore, too.

Of course. Simple logic.

Than if you are fully confident he would beat out Moore and he is your guy, than you don't lowball him. I don't know if Flynn is the answer or not but I do know by our FOs action that they thought he was the guy and to lowball him is completely unacceptable. Especially it being the most important position on the field. If you think he's your guy, pay him a reasonable deal.

So let me understand this. Because Seattle was offering starters money they should ignore their opinion of Flynn to make ppl like you happy?

There is ZERO chance, if they thought he was a starter they wouldn't have offered him a starters contract. Dude you are making my argument.

Also as I pointed out. You have zero respect for the realism of this situation. These men work very hard, and have a real stake in the decisions they make, it's real. They screw up their families suffer. Until posters like you understand that, you will continue to treat these ppl like some actors in a movie.

In short have some respect for yourself, and use logic, not emotions because your team didn't do well or the FO didn't make the moves you wanted.

wow...$10 mil guaranteed and we don't do it...wow...seattle can pretty much put all that guaranteed money in the 2012 cap and get out after one season if he doesn't pan out...unreal

i don't want to hear any trash about how philbin didn't want flynn...if that was the case he would have never been in the building...we just didn't want to pony up the guaranteed money...

we're gonna end up screwing off enough here where we end up with no qb this offseason and matt moore the only option...tannehill to cleveland at #4 has a lot of momentum right now and we're bringing in scrubs like david garrard...just make this nightmare end...

you guys wanting alex smith better hope that peyton chooses the 9ers cause if he doesn't we are fubarred...and i bet if smith does come here he's gonna cost us more guaranteed money than flynn did...

I'm going to be honest with you, I got no idea what the hell our front office is doing. The truth is that Matt Flynn might turn out to be a pretty decent quarterback, but this team was completely ****ing screwed when it decided to rip off six meaningless wins after putting itself squarely in the driver's seat for Andrew Luck. I don't think any QB we were going to get was going to fix that.

Again no, if they thought him to be a starter, they would have offered him starters money. The notion that Ireland would hire Philbin to only ignore the mans opinion of a QB he spent several years around is laughable, really beyond laughable.

You guys hate Ireland so much, you simply refuse to see the logic of the situation.

So tell me, how does that speech go from the HC or GM to the team? Guys we want you tank it, to go out there, and not try to win. We want you to go out there and increase your chances of being injured so this franchise will be in a better situation next year. Yes we know, some of you may not be here, but please, do us that favor.

I mean really?

Tough you are going to hear it.

There's no way Ireland hired Philbin to ignore him months later on a QB Philbin had intimate knowledge of. Sorry 2+2=4, not 14. If they thought he was a starter, they would have offered him starters money.

Now is a good time for the managers of this site to change the homepage flash player that asks 1. FA QB Matt Flynn: will he come to Miami with Philbin? (No) 2. Peyton Manning: Can Miami land a legend? (No) 3. RGIII: Heisman winner RRGIII (No).

Obviously you don't instruct players to go out there and throw games, but there's stuff you can do from a management perspective that makes sense. Like shutting down an injured Jake Long so he can rest up and get healthy and not aggravate his injuries.

And furthermore, you don't have to endorse throwing games to look at the situation and say "Yep, this team screwed itself over by winning games." Because it did and only a fool would think otherwise. 1-15 and we're not having any of these discussions, we're drafting Andrew Luck and having a board full of hype and excitement right now. Go read a Colts board. They're laughing at the 49ers, the Titans, the Broncos, the Seahawks, the Browns, the Dolphins, the Jets, everybody else out there right now.

And now Manning chooses Titans.. Smith goes back to 49ers. And we are stuck looking at Hasselbeck or the 3rd or 4th Qb options in the draft (Tannehill or Weeden)...... that is unless Cleveland takes Tannenhill at 4.

Just a typical dolphins offseason. nothing to see here

HEY!!!.....Don't forget David Garrard......so at least we got that goin' for us (kicks up feet with hands behind head and a cold one on a coaster)

As far as the Long thing, he decides when he plays and doesn't, let's be real, ok. Plus you'd have to get Sprano to go along with that, and the guy knew he was fighting for his job ever since Ross went to visit Harbaugh. You cannot influence games like that in the NFL, for multiple reasons. As much as I agree I'd like to have gone 1-15, I wouldn't like to hear the team threw in the towel.

Nice generalization. I've actually defended Ireland more than most and don't hate him. I actually look at last year as being the first full year in being able to give a legitimate evaluation. I've praised the last drat and the trade for bush before he ran wild. So don't label people you don't know about. But I actually look to be objective and will be critical if warranted.

I also never said Ireland ignored philibins evaluation of Flynn. I find your assumption that we lowballed simply because we felt that was his value laughable. Like I said, I look to be objective and will praise and criticize where it's warranted. Im sorry I can't say the same for you. Funny how almost man for man, minus some independent thinkers, the Ireland apologists are also the anti suck for luckers. Yeah. No agenda there
