Merged: Mayweather Delahoya

that ike quartey fight was a good one - anyone know what's ike's status since he lost that comeback controversial decision last spring?

A fight I never thought he should have taken and hence was robbed of the win. I'm a big Bazooka fan myself d-day and I long for the days of the old Ike. You know I'm always looking out for Ike's "other" biggest fan on here.

After the controversial lost to Vernon Forrest, Ike fought Winky Wright in what ended up being a whitewash. As of right now, he has no scheduled fights on the horizon. The Winky fight was not a good matchup for him at all and even though he was never seriously hurt in that fight, Winky does what he always does and completely outclassed him. Ike is just not the same guy who schooled Oba Carr a little over 10 years ago and gave DLH all he wanted over 12 rounds.

yes, because he backed oscar, but didnt want to make it known really.

and did you hear his reasons for oscar winning? he pushed the fight, and threw more punches, even though they didnt land, he pressed the fight.

sorry predator, but pressing and throwing missing punches does not win you a fight.

I like that Predator comment as I made it too during the match

Ok but I disagree with Mayweather winning for simply backing up, throwing a punch and basically running back. :nono: I like Mayweather don't get me wrong, always nice to see someone undefeated (besides Football) but DLH took it IMO.

Mayweather was an embarrassment...Oscar was over the Hill....

In his hey day...Oscar would have pressed him down the stretch and got a knockout....

Ike Quartey gave Oscar a better fight.

I had the fight 7-4 Mayweather...but he basically won the fight throwing one punch "combinations."

Floyd isn;t in the top 100 fighters of all-time and he is basically a joke.

Oscar has 8 good rounds in him...that is all.

In reality..neither one of these guys can hold a candle to any of the contenders during the Leonard/hagler/Hearns/Duran days.

Boxing is dead.

I have never seen so many outlandish statements in one post, but I guess I should consider the source

you dont watch many of mayweather's fights do you? there's no way you can say Oscar won...most of his punches didnt even land..you cant throw more punches, not land even 35-40% and think you are going to win

Closes it could of been is a draw. Score cards were were 116-112, 115-113 Mayweather, 115-113 De La Hoya. The judge who gave 115-113 to floyd gave Rd. 12 to floyd which I thought Oscar won easily the final rd. That seems to be the deciding round because if he would gave it to Oscar it would of been 114-114 and a draw. But either way no way oscar was going to win on the cards

Amen. When are people going to acknowledge defense in boxing? No doubt Floyd got hit in the fight but his defense was suburb as was his counter punching. Oscar didn't win the fight. He fought well and deserves respect for making it closer then it was but no way did he win the fight!

backing up? its smart and great defense. how many times was he up agaisnt the ropes and oscar still barley connected. if oscar was going to walk into jabs and one twos, while not being able to connect anything, that was his decision and it was extremely smart for floyd to let him do it.....you might think that oscar won the fight based on floyd "running back", but its absolutely wrong, and thats not an opinion. its takes more then pressing the fight to win a boxing championship.

which I thought Oscar won easily the final rd.

absolutely he did. mayweather did nothing the last round to win it, have no clue how they gave it to him, but i also have no clue how they could have given oscar so many rounds prior

PPV telecast sets all time record

HBO Sports reported today that 2.15 million pay-per-view buys and $120 million in pay-per-view revenue was generated from last Saturday’s mega fight showdown featuring Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. In a fight that set the all-time pay-per-view record by eclipsing the previous mark by a sizable margin of 160,000 buys as well as establishing a new mark for revenue from a pay-per-view telecast, Mayweather scored a split decision victory and captured De La Hoya’s junior middleweight title. The showdown produced 1,225,000 buys from cable systems and 925,000 buys from satellite homes throughout the 50 states.

yeah, boxing is dead. :rolleyes2

I was a little disappointed, not necesseraly by the fact that Floyd won the fight, which I'm not convinced, but was not a good fight....I guess the fact that Oscar is not the same fighter he was once, due to the age, I was aspecting more from Floyd which is in his prime, but he was not able to deliver a clear victory. What was clear to me is that Oscar is a better boxer, but over the hill.

DAMN 2.1 Million

That more then all UFC put together in a year I bet.

"A person close to the promotion said De La Hoya would end up making about $45 million for the fight and Mayweather just over $20 million."

crazy.

No boxing is not dead but do you think this fight did anything to entice the average sports fan to spend $55 on another PPV?

The promotion in this case was masterful and it will need to continue to be that way or boxing will be in trouble.

You throw Mayweather in there vs Margarito (a much better fight IMO) and I guarantee it will NOT do half of what this fight did and that's where the shame is.

:sidelol: Funniest thing I've ever read. Oscar is a better boxer then Floyd LMAO, that's original!
