In an article today in the Miami Herald, they say "Nick Saban was enamored with Jay Cutler and told a team official that Miami would be in great shape if it could acquire the Vanderbuilt QB."

It also says Saban has said he wants to go after a big name O-lineman in free agency.

It is at the bottom under "Chatter"

I think Saban sees something in this kid and I believe he will trade up if necessary to get him. And if Saban feels that is the right move then I am all for it.

Sorry about putting this in the main section, I probably should have put this in the draft section. But it does talk a bit about free agency so I don't know.

it's hard to see saban publicaly saying he's caught up on one player after last years secrecy. but thanks for putting out the article

he didnt say anything. its all the media, as before, as always. dont read too into it.

Yeah, I'm not reading too much into it. I don't think Saban would leak such specifics unless he was laying a smokescreen. Also, I think Saban is more about what a player can bring to a team than a 'big name', so I don't know why he'd be interested in bringing a playmaker to the team before evaluating the entire free agency class.

How much are we going to have to give up to get Cutler? I would not like to see us trade away our 1st round pick, Ricky and a 2nd rounder for him (just an example). And the question with Cutler is, will he be the next Brett Favre or the next JP Losman?

Our first and second would be enough and we could possibly get a later pick along with it if your talking about somewhere around 7. And you never know until he gets on the field. He has been compared to Farve, but I'm not ready to write off Losman. Many QB's struggle in their first year starting, and he still has alot of ability.

I don't see it either. I think Jay Cutler is going to be this years Braylon Edwards

Hey, man. Losman has only had 8 starts. Let him have at least a season under his belt before you label him a bust. He looked pretty good against you guys in the 1st quarter in Miami.

Mark my words: Saban picks up a solid veteran to lead the Fins in '06. I'm thinking possibly Brad Johnson.

The Sacramento paper reported Oakland may take Cutler with the 6th pick which makes alot of sense. There is no way we can trade up that high without giving up some high draft picks. I would love to have Cutler I think is going to be very good but I don't see us moving up that high.

I am surprised the Raiders would take Cutler because they just drafted Andrew Walter from Arizona State last year and that they were high on him.

Did you see the kid throw in Senior Bowl practice? He throw's harder than Clemons on steroids.. Ball explodes out of his hands..

I dont know how much I read into this either, its intresting we keep hearing the same name though.

I agree with you on JP, although from here the perceived lack of confidence from the vets would concern me if I was in your shoes.

I have wondered several times if Brad might not be one of the few veterans that would be an actuall upgrade and not a lateral move. I have always liked the way he carried himself on the field even if he is a statue. With an o-line upgrade and a few rollouts he could get it done...maybe.
